Anyway. As an iPhone owner and lover I have to say, who cares?! 100,000 Apps means nothing when over 50% are pointless, useless, lame or all of the above. That is not even taking into account all the rips-offs of rip-offs of rip-offs.
"100,000 Apps" is just one of the meaningless arbitrary numbers that sales people used to push the "greatness" of a product.
Do not get me wrong, I love the good apps, but all the apps that are truly great are selling the most copies on the App store which means they will be able to afford to make an Android and Palm Version. So it will be the other App stores that have all the best apps with almost none of the crap apps and will shine for that.
Check out Gigbox app for Android: http://www.mygigbox.com
But seriously, congrats.
that is a huge success
Congratulation
Since the introduction of App Store and the free Software Development Kit (SDK) which was made available by Apple for iPhone developers, with 100s of APIs to make truly native Apps, there has been an explosion of iPhone Apps. With the revised OS 3.0 software update we have seen a further significant rise in the production of iPhone Apps. Added features and more APIs for things like in-app purchases, peer-to-peer connectivity and push notifications have allowed the production of much more powerful Apps thus increasing the motivation for developers to develop.
However, it would be interesting to know just how many Apps were rejected for sale on the App Store as Apple have an approval system whereby they verify the suitability of the contents of each App prior to allowing it to be available on the App Store.
I think that Apple seriously need to consider their stance on the rejection of certain "inappropriate" Apps as there are already Parental Controls options available on the iPhone and it's time these were used to full effect. I am of the firm opinion that Apple will at some point become more lenient with the approval of Apps and eliminate the discrepancies we have seen with the approval of one App and the rejection of a similar one.
Another flaw which is evident in the current App system, which we saw with the launch of Tweetie 2, is whether a developer can charge you for a "new App" rather than update the existing App for customers who bought the original, for free. Apps are generally updated on an ongoing basis and these free updates usually remove bugs and in some cases add functionality.
Furthermore, with increased pressure from the FCC, and when competitors like HTC, Palm and Blackberry, (running Operating Systems like Symbian, Android and Windows Mobile), start to make ground on the iPhone and it's OS, Apple will have to react.
Thanks Mashable, great post as always.
> available applications is a bit lower; according to App Shopper, it’s currently at 93,035.

You aren't going to tell anyone why there would be 8 *THOUSAND* full approved apps in the store... but they are never available to anyone????
