LMAO! That's first thing I was thinking before I read your comment.

Note: it's a dev version atm, so the results will be quirky until they finish the development.
  • Brad Phillips · 3 months ago
Google is scared of Bing. You can just feel it. This doesn't seem all too important. I'll just stick mith my Bing.
  • observer · 3 months ago
I agree. But people are brainwashed by google, they don't know it. For instance, youtube has changed because of bing videos (offering videos from other repositories, and changing the interface), streetview is copying photosynth, and the list goes on...

but tech'journalists' are most of the time google or apple fanboys. just check the google ad$ ;-)
  • Vb Reader · 3 months ago
good comment. its true that people are talking very high about Google. Even googles alogorithm itself preventing publishers to add out bound links. How will you give outbound links. it forces the publishers to put no-follow in the anchors.
if the search engine is good enough to ignore the outbound links why the publishers have to put no-follow on that.

this is just a small point. the list goes on.
I am waiting for a good search engine which is inteligient enough to differenicat a good content from the rest.
I dont know why all the search engines are forcing the publishers rather than improving their algorthm. Its time for microsoft to take the web search and make it publisher, and user friendly. rather than concentrating on speed and speed.
  • Nono · 3 months ago
Pepe, youtube DID changed after bing video was launched! This is just a FACT!
  • pepetideo · 3 months ago
Youtube did add some features after bing was released... but who says that they would not release those features even if bing mas not there. Google is contantly improving their apps. Gmail was in beta for more than 4 years... are you also going to say that all their improvements to gmail were just a response to hotmail and yahoo mail?
  • OkinSama · 3 months ago
Problem with that is that Bing really isn't all that better than Google. Bing claims to be new, the first of it's kind... But that's just a silly marketing gimmick that many people have fallen for. The results are almost identical to Google, so at most this means Microsoft has just 'caught up' to Google.
Google seems to always be a step ahead. We've had google, and it's advanced search results for like a decade... MS is only just now getting this? lol
  • James · 3 months ago
Almost identical...except that Bing results suck.
  • SEOhSnap · 3 months ago
I recently conducted a search for "listing products on Bing Shopping". Bing returned crap results, Google gave me the answers I needed.

Bing is fairly weak but doing very well with their marketing push.

  • Shitij Nigam · 4 months ago
It's faster, definitely. First few searches came up much much faster. Would be good to know exactly what changes they made though. Plus when the search suggestions box opens, you see two nice buttons "Google Search" and "I'm feeling lucky"

Old Google... searched my name... first result was my LinkedIn profile, 2nd my Twitter account.

New Google... just the opposite LOL
  • Ian · 3 months ago
Same experience. My personal website used to be the first result now I'm the sixth search result and it isn't even to my homepage... A person with the same name as me is beating me and he only has a single page with his contact information on it.

Does it address the main Facebook complaint that Google is a cpu giving results and not a human/your network? Maybe Wave integration will tackle this.

jesus christ. Bing just went Boom. This is awesome!
  • JT · 4 months ago
Very awesome, super fast too. Search for "jt" puts me in at result #6 instead of like #14. That works for me. :)

i don't mean to sound like a spammer, but this is great news for sites like mine. My site, http://allofcraigs.com - searches all of Craigslist, and if Google can return Craigslist ads in real-time, that would be an extremely valuable tool for people who use Craigslist.

Hmmm, new Google seems like new Coke. I found more gamed, SEO spammed and irrelevant results with the new Google and I pretty much only use Google. So far not at all impresssed. More disapointed and a bit worried. Much of our business coames from google and if this rolles out, we will lose a lot of business.

The new version has excellent accuracy. Can't wait to see it's full development. Btw now I start to feel the current Google is flawed :D

Among so many dating sites, I speak highly of the **KissCougar.COM**..Maybe the settings and the formats cannot arouse your attention, but what's worthy???It's not difficult to find out that the people create their profiles with the true inf., pcs and their true intentions.....no cheat here...of course u'd be 22 years old according to the rule and u'd be really interested in dating with a man or a woman.....
  • Stefan Bergfeldt · 3 months ago
I don't understand what makes the new result more real-time?
It seems to be about the same, but with an older blog post.
  • Vygantas · 3 months ago
Google is get more annoying every day, first it was ajax +- which just wastes time, sidebar, then ads closer to results...

P.S. Stop forcing to subscribe to your stupid comments, it's funny that script remember my name and email but not subscription and web site address option,
  • Yaarik · 3 months ago
results are a bit freaky :) But I like it none the less!
  • Mark · 3 months ago
"It’s the first step in a process that will let us push the envelope on size, indexing speed, accuracy, comprehensiveness and other dimensions."

Google works on these issues on a daily basis, it's not a big deal imo. We see algo changes all the time, this will be just one of the many to come. Results are pretty similar to current from my end and can't deny that Google has been adding new dimensions to search already.
  • Miro · 3 months ago
How exactly is it faster? I tried searching "google" in current google (surprisingly it didn't break the internet) and the time was (0.08 seconds). Then tried it in the new google - (0.30 seconds)
That doesn't seem faster at all :) Also why did you cut off that part of the screens?
  • Lorn · 3 months ago
Suggestion -- try using that logic with something like BAC while driving in Illinois. .08 will give you a warning. .30 will put you in handcuffs and jail while your vehicle is impounded.

  • Raoul Duke · 3 months ago
I´m wondering how google still keeps this "goodboy" image. With so enormous market shares the internet could be happy about any competitor...even if the SEO people are happy to work just for one Search engine...Google did not stick to their core business and try to get as much as they can...I´m hoping that the search engine upgrade does not prefer google associated services even more then it does now...
  • ananda · 3 months ago
interestingly it does not provide any identity or ownership information, but it's pretty sick
  • Brad F. · 3 months ago
The results for myself (real name) seem a lot more on-target with the new Google search.
  • Ray · 3 months ago
Not sure if the speed was due to the fact that it has very little traffic right now, but I just did a search and got an instantaneous response. Very cool!

The new Google lost the country search !
This was very helpful for legal related searches
  • M. Garcia · 3 months ago
Frankly, I don't like this new google search mainly because I'll have to find another way of SEO for the website. Right now (on the "old" google) our site comes up on the top of page 2 of the search results when entering the search "endoscopy" - and it's our main landing page, along with the google maps link to our address.

With the "new" google, we're buried on the 16th page of results, and it's one of our subdivisions (our "Veterinary Division" subfolder at "/vet").

I haven't done much SEO other than trying to put as many relevant keywords on the page as well as in the title (i.e.: "endoscopy") and it has worked for us so far. What will be the SEO for this new google search? What will get our main page back up to page 1 or 2 of the search results again?

  • mrbutter · 3 months ago
To be perfectly honest here's my $0.02:

People who switched to Bing most likely switched because it looked different and took a unique approach to search. If you searched for "Hypoglicemia" it'll give you a "Bing Article" about it. If you search for plane tickets, it can help you decide when and where to buy. The layout is different and some people may prefer it.

Now whether any of that is useful is of course up to the individual. However, if Bing really has started to steal market share from Google then clearly some people do prefer these features over Google's.

So if Google wants to win these people back...they can't simply upgrade the backend to make results better. Yes, at the end of the day results are what matter. But to regular Joe who switched to Bing in July 2009, once the "entirely new Google" comes out in, say, February 2010....he'll be expecting it to do what Bing does and more. And honestly, I think in order to do what Bing does (and more), Google would need a UI change.

Now of course I realize that a UI change is dangerous and I obviously know why they wouldn't want to do it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Right? Well, yes. If I was in charge of google I would probably keep my current UI as to not scare off most users. Afterall, not that many people have moved on to Bing. So losing them is not as bad as scaring off the rest of the users.

With that said, if Bing does keep getting more and more users, then it does become increasingly more important to make some sort of big visual change. Something everyone will notice, not just nerds.

So in conclusion: the changes are welcome and good, but at the moment they will not bring back any "converted" users who started using Bing.

I feel like a better improvement would be to give users the option to turn off relevance. I'd be interested to see what results I would get if PageRank and site popularity were less of a factor or no factor at all.
  • Nick · 3 months ago
This is good news...but what a poorly written article! I know you don't have much to go on but simply stating "the results are different" doesn't give us anything to go on. Might as well left this one as a headline snip and a link to the dev site.
  • CarlosFW · 3 months ago
I agree with OkinSama, it is the marketing. I am an avid Google Search user but I like to try new things too. I started using Bing recently as I wanted to see the the claims from Microsoft for myself. In my many searches in the last week or so showed me that I cannot find some things on Bing that appear in the top results on Google. I think that Bing needs a little more time to build up their index but I have not found more accuracy in the search either.

It's good to see how Google continues to evolve based on its user's needs. I think it will have to continue to evolve, as competition (Bing) keeps it in check, and us, the Groundswell. Good stuff Google

Competition always brings innovation. Good job Bing.
  • brandonhess · 3 months ago
Anyone thinking this isn't a reaction to Bing isn't being realistic. It's good for the internet to have Google being forced in a corner to update it's popular, however aging, search system. I hope this little Bing/Google (and Facebook) spat keeps up as it breeds innovation versus the last few years of neglect.

Hell, hopefully we get some better sorted, hyper-relevant, real-time, semi-semantic web results from Google out of this which will force Bing to keep pushing their innovation, etc, etc.

interesting. so the new Google search engine is just a sped up closer to real-time version of itself. i wouldn't say this is necessarily a reaction to Microsoft/Yahoo!/Bing, but that Google is constantly improving and developing.
  • Randy Carpadus · 3 months ago
Does it REALLY make a difference that you get a result in 0.12 seconds vs 0.25 seconds? Really? One tenth of a second vs two tenths? Give me a flipping break. Are we that hung up on time? All I am interested is if I can find what I want when I want to and this seems no better. In fact over SEO'd black hat sites are ranking better so far.

51,900,000 search results will NEVER be acceptable
when looking for a product or a business.

    A REVOLUTION is coming...

    -The FOURTH generation of search.
    -The first 3D search engine.
-The only worldwide product catalog and business directory.
-Offering search results with 100% relevancy.
-No garbage. No unrelated content. No banner ads.

Life is too short to waste time digging through pointless search results.

The internet shakeup is approaching... can you feel it?

    BE READY

I tried Bing shortly before writing this and my search results just brought me an entire first page of Wiki/dictionary/overall irrelevant links whereas the same search in Google brings me exactly what I'm looking for. I guess there's a reason why Google has become something second-nature to me and, I think, many others due to its accuracy and speed. I don't even think of going somewhere else to find something anymore... I just Google it. Writing this now the actual name 'Google' seems foreign because I simply don't go anywhere else to find something on the net.

I am getting two different ranks in the 2 different search engines with two different number of competition for my sites. It is better-so I won't complain if caffeine is honing in on what the sites are about instead of just slapping up corporate sites with no relevance.
The other issue I have is outdated links -that announce a meeting or a seminar for instance which is 3 years old....I hope they clean up that kind of junk stuff and keep the content that writers take time to write which is all original and with good information.
