Mashable - The Social Media Guide: Wow, Google Really Likes Muppets!

  • r0cketman22 · 1 month ago
They're doing it everyday until the actual date of the anniversary, November 10th!
  • Vamsi Gangavalli · 1 month ago
You are right. I guess there will be more to see:

This is almost funny, in that Google keeps changing their look. It's nice to see variety, but there is such a thing as stimulus-overload. Although, they do try and keep their audience in touch with relevant events, and not just random pics with no real meaning

  • advocatus · 1 month ago
Right. I don't agree with the "stimulus-overload" comment, but everything else. They're like Bing but actually have a purpose.
  • J Crespin · 3 weeks ago
Bing is like them, they, Google did start this kind of thing
  • Henry · 1 month ago
this is a lot of fun
    Google often changes the look
but i think the pic should accord with the related event

Remember the 'gay' rumours that surrounded Ernie and Bert? Dunno if it's a coincidence, a sneaky joke or me just reading into it way too much, but I couldn't help but notice that they're both surrounded by the letter 'G' painted in purple.
  • Yipyip · 1 month ago
I zeroed in on that too. It's definitely not a coincidence.

    As usual, Google rocks. :)
  • r0cketman22 · 1 month ago
The whole logo seems to be darkened so it wouldn't clash with B&E. But I think I'll still go with this being a strange coincidence...
  • Laurie · 1 month ago
I noticed that too, and don't think it was a coincidence either. I thought it was hilarious.

As long as they pay the same respect to the Wombles, it doesn't worry me.

Prior to the Queens visit to the london google office we all had to decorate our work areas with individual 'flair', we chose to dangle some muppet images from the ceiling in a 'which muppet are you' style.
On the day of her maj's visit we all had to run around taking them down just in case one of the TV cameras caught sight of one of them as an unlicenced image. happy days.

Two days ago, it was the Cookie Monster (love him). Great ideas, but I fear company's will to pay google to make branded logos (imagine a Coca-Cola Logo for Christmas, an Apple / Iphone google logo for an I don't know which day fest).

I Hope they'll keep some conscious.

I definitely don't think Google will ever have ads on the homepage!

Sesame Street was only good back in the day. Now that I have a daughter of my own I was shocked to see how much it's changed for the worse. At least Google seems to be paying tribute to the original characters, mostly.

Not a patch on the Wallace & Gromit logo the UK got:

It used to be fun to see Google's changing logo. But lately it seems like too much of a good thing.
  • Ted Avery · 1 month ago
It's happening for an entire week, this was stated on the official Google Blog.

"and now the logo is sporting other two characters from the series."

This doesn't make sense. I would flip the words "other" and "two."

What's not to like? I wish Ernie was holding his rubber duckie.

    Aaawwww. You noticed!
How innocent and cute right? ...

I was telling someone a few days ago, that i got the idea it could because of the antitrust case against Google. When the Google Logo is seen everyday during search it becomes so present in our mind that if the department of justice did seek regulation on the basis of google's over charging products/service providers for sponsored search, because as middlemen they have huge access to potential customerhs Which gives the power to basically name their price, or "abuse" their monopoly position. So If there was a case, People would say yes. Google is omnipresent. We all know the power of public opinion, so i think maybe it's a way subtle the way to remove the google logo from our sight and keep a low profile. And of course make it more friendly.
Of course it's just a theory, but I don't think the idea is that ludicrous. I mean if i worked at google i would consider doing something like this.
And also, with google adwords there are so many middlemen, that the cost of comissions in directing the traffic ends up being paid by the consumer. So the cash of google charging more in the end comes from the consumer's pocket.

Who doesn't like muppets? Remember this from FAO Schwartz? http://www.fao.com/whatnots/builder.jsp. You can make yourself a muppet now.
  • Dee · 1 month ago
Well now, who doesn't like the muppets? Miss Piggy is the woman every woman should be -- she takes no crap. Ask Kermit!
  • fontgoddess · 1 month ago
Of course Google likes Muppets. They have googly eyes.

OK seriously -- what is there NOT to love about Muppets? I'm all about the Muppets . . . you should see my cubicle at work.
  • Jessica Soulliere · 1 month ago
I'm pretty sure the Sesame Street characters are NOT Muppets (Jim Henson's Muppets, that is), but they are puppets! Here are the real Muppets: http://disney.go.com/dxd/index.html?channel=102....

Can't wait for Jim Henson's birthday so we can see a series of the Muppets too! I'm digging the Sesame Street characters though. Where's the Count?? :)
  • Yipyip · 1 month ago
Sesame Street's characters were a production of Jim Henson and are very much "Muppets," although owned by Sesame Workshop now. :P

Actually genius Sesame Street is Jim Henson's muppets. You should do some research so that you fully understand the awesomeness. Thanks.

I found this site by googling "Too much sesame street".... I'm soooo sick of it. they're going way overboard with the muppets. I don't like all the random experiments every time I go to google.com they're doing either. guess it's time to start checking out bing!
