Definitely not shocked by these figures. Facebook is easy to use, the homepage layout isn't too complicated and it's become the ideal way to get in touch with people you haven't seen nor spoken to in years. Literally!
What my question is, how can us online marketers take advantage of Facebook? I'm currently doing affiliate marketing. Is there really a huge platform for us to generate revenue on this site? I tried a few PPC campaigns in the past... ummm... the impressions were in the millions but the clicks... sucked!

I've been watching that for a while. That is the one thing that always cracks me up about Twitter. Everybody keeps swearing Twitter will be the next best things, but there are some periods where Facebook grows nearly 20M in 30 days. That just shy on about how much traffic Twitter gets in 30 days. Numbers based on US traffic. Looking at Twitter now, it's looking like Facebook grows more in one day than Twitter does in a month.

WOW - I'm actually surprised, especially given that many a user are complaining about new or changed features. Still new members should have no reason to be disgruntled by this.
I spend more time on Twitter than I do on Facebook.

I'm wondering how many of those accounts are duplicates (owned by the same person) or bot-owned? I mean, there's no restriction on how many facebook accounts you can have, so that half-a-million figure is a bit ambiguous. Nevertheless, even if you'd say half of them shouldn't count, that's still an impressive number!

Thing is you also have to take in consideration that many have 2-3 accounts tho. On top of that lets say I have company so that's already 2 accounts now imagine I love my dog so much that I create FB account just for my Dog? That's 3 accounts...Oh and let's now forget that I could possibly be husband of OctoMom and have to create account for each of them that's already 11 accounts

The question still remains - what are people USING Facebook for? Oh, sure... relatives are staying in touch and sharing baby pictures, school kids are sharing insider-secrets about last weekend's dates, and marketers are scoping the landscape figuring out how to make a buck.
I like it as a mini oasis, away from the 837 emails I average each day. Lots going on and easy to find. Smart people sharing things.
It's really one of my favorite ways to communicate, and that's why I teach it to others.
Yes, that's why lot of niche social networks are created for these purposes.

I think these stats are way too high. Does Facebook remove accounts of dead members after noticing that they have become inactive? I have noticed that some Facebook friends who passed away many months ago still have their accounts on Facebook.
