Thank you for this article. Very timely for me personally and such a potentially powerful way forward for CSR.

Couldn't agree more. As we move out of the branding era, which was about buying experience, and into the social media era, consumers want to buy impact and know how their purchase is impacting a community and the world.

    Mellisa,

I really enjoyed the first video. It is amazing to see how technology is enabling this progress. And so quickly too.

Pushing for CSR and sustainability are powerful ways for companies and other organizations to really establish relationships with the communities they affect -- in real life and virtually. I thought this was a great post and it was nice to see how large companies are embracing and learning.

Great article, enjoyed reading it and passing along to others.

It is ironic however, that despite Intel’s CSR goals, the company is the object of an anti-trust suit by the Federal Bureau of Competition.

Social media is about being in touch with customers. With the scalability of the Internet, firms can learn a lot from their customer base and readjust their marketing strategies. Also, the fact that customers are involved in value creation gives them more power over how the product will serve their needs.

Interesting article. Thanks for sharing. I agree with your points. But what is the conclusion in your article? What is the advice you would give to organizations?

Social Media is absolutely a vital component of a strategic Corporate Social Responsibility program. But it is simply a tool after carefully developed CSR strategy.

Great article and relevant. Even the most simple campaigns like Levi's new "Give Good Cheer" project advance how companies with a deep sense of social purpose are using the Web to build brand heat around their values. I'd would encourage Mashable readers to check out the new report out of the Irvine Foundation entitled "Convergence: How Five Trends Will Reshape the Social Sector." While the report is primarily written to help non-profits understand the dramatically shifting landscape for social activism, the key findings about Gen Y attitudes, technology and other factors are highly relevant to CSR strategies for social media platforms like Changents.com, JustMeans, Change.org, etc.
