Some people will fall for anything... no matter how unprofessional the site looks, how broken the english, they'll still enter their personal information.

If you don't have good enough judgement to know first not to click something like that without asking what it is, and then to enter your login info you shouldn't be allowed on the internet. Period.

To be honest, as others have already mentioned, if people are stupid enough to not even check the web address or credentials of a site they're being asked to authenticate for... Then they deserve everything they get.

ROFL! Really? email and PASSWORD to view some video? These people shouldn't just get SPAM, they should be mailed an AOL CD. That way their ISP matches their tech savviness. Forget about changing your password after getting hit with this thing, it's quite possible there's a bot behind it that, upon logging in, also does a quick search for any shopping/billing/banking/account related emails and saves those in a nice log. The fact that people fall for things like this is the reason OS and utility systems are becoming that much more dumbed down and locked down rather than flexible and user controlled. For shame.

The article also notes that "Joshua A. Kroll ’09, former president of the Harvard Computer Society, said users should take care not to click on unfamiliar links. He also said that TinyURL.com includes a preview feature that can give Web surfers an indication of the link’s actual destination. "
but you seem to have to go to http://tinyurl.com/preview.php to set this, so it is not likely to save those who need saving.

Well, I've never clicked (and will never) on something unusual or something that comes with the link to click on. To make sure, I will wait for a while to see if there's a news reporting phishing, virus, etc then I may trust that it comes from my friend :)

I can't believe that even Google talk is now affected with this phishing scam. Apparently, I haven't experienced it yet, but geee this is really scary. Would be very careful now in logging in. Anyways thanks for sharing this. Will spread this post so that others might know about this.

FYI, this phishing scam has resurfaced.
I was not aware of this scam until this morning, 3/10/09, when a friend passed me the link.
Stop saying that people are stupid to have clicked on the link, or that they don't deserve to have Internet access. My friend Julie gchatted me the link and I wrote her back saying "What is this? Is this a scam? Is it safe?" She said "yes, it's safe!" so I clicked on it and opened it, and I got the phishing scam sent to my friends. Turns out Julie had not known that the link was sent to her address list. When I had replied with the "What is this?" chat, she thought I was referring to Gchat itself, which is safe. You do not know that this link gets passed on, even if you get replies from people. I have never fallen for a scam before and this was an honest mistake, so stop impuning the character of people who followed a link from their friends.

there are so many google scams going around nowadays. It is good to keep on top of them. the google cash scam is a prime example of this. They offer a kit that only costs 1.95 shipping that will make money with google that very day. The fact is these scams are taking money from you as soon as you agree to the shipping fee. The other sad part is that google offers this service up for free.
