ok, facebook was filling my inbox with requests and crap. I turned off all notifications and it didn't stop. I deactivated my account...IT STILL DIDN'T STOP.
I emailed facebook and was given a BS response of how to manually remove all the content in my profile.
This didn't help with the email notifications.
At this point I got creative.
First I posted F#$% FACEBOOK on my wall.
Then I changed my profile photo to a pornographic pic.
THen I deactivated my account and emailed abuse@facebook.com and told them my account has been hacked and I was offended by the pictures posted.

Within minutes my account was gone!!!!!

I never signed up for facebook or any such listing. I do not have a facebook account. Therefore I cannot login. SOOOOOOOO.....How did I get listed, and how can I get my name and other incorrect info off facebook? Including an endangering listing of my address, which I have always kept private, as a woman living alone!

you asked about deactivateing i never did but still cant get help getting back on my face book it has been at least 3 months and got no help my family are all on what seems to be the problem i would like to know they say it is the pass word then say it is the e m lets see now who is deactivateing

I havent gotten a reset e-mail from the facebook team so that i can re-sign on to my account, I also want to add that it has been almost a month since the problem has occurred and is still not fixed. I am ready to permanently delete my account and complain about the facebook team's poor attentiveness to fix problems.

Ha. I clicked 'deactivate' and got pictures of 5 people who would supposedly miss me.
Looking at each one, I decided that none of them would actually miss me.
My real friends have got my number and they know they can call me anytime.
Facebook can fuck off.

Said it before, say it again: "Social networking is the new vendor lock-in"

Imagine, if they wanted to, they could amp up the guilt-trip a notch, with a bit more data mining:

"Why leave FB, when this is where you

... told everyone about your new-born child on April 9, 2007
... told your friends about your new job on October 6, 2008
... made a joke to your sister on November 2, 2008"

I find it insidious, the way these sites will now be the storage for a lot of your experiences in memories. And some of these bits and bobs are going to be precious stuff to us, but you can't take it with you once the site disappears.

Last century, we had photos and letters, and kept things in shoeboxes and looked at them every now and then. (yes, i know - no backups, fire/water damage, rats, etc) Now, we have hosted data - data that is so intertwined and format-dependent, and is totally gone once the host site is lost. I try to move conversations to Gmail, but a lot of the time, it's just so convenient to just stay in Facebook. We can't win. :(

Here's the hypocritical aspect of Facebook.

It's a social networking site. They provide dozens if not hundreds of games to play. Yet, when you try to add friends to play the game with you, you're "pinked" and warned that you're violating the TOS and could have your account deactivated.

Now, I'm as annoyed as anyone by invitations to joins games, events, etc. But these are friend requests sent to fellow game players who want/need more friends.

IT'S STUPID!!!! And FB only hurts itself with these stupid restrictions.

I did this and got all pictures of me and my friends, but every one of them was a man. I posted it on my FB account if you want to see (http://www.facebook.com/mea.... I don't think it's a coincidence that FB might look for people of the opposite sex to keep you from leaving.

Not really, since 80% of Facebook friends are just friends of friends of friends of... well, mostly unknown people. They won't really miss me and I do not feel guilty at all! ;-)

I was the victim of this very thing and eventually I decided to stay when I saw that heart wrenching page. Kudos for writing it down, and yes, it might be the brightest reason that people get retained at Facebook.

The idea behind that is really great. But facebook uses your friends often to promote something. Like the group or brand suggestions on the top right at the startpage. Thats really brilliant as they do that...
