I feel like, for the average person, this space is completely empty.  The Apple TV is cool, but no box has jumped into the public imagination yet, the way the iPod did for music.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Could this be the box?  Maybe.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;We all are pretty sure that the internet is the future of TV.  (All you need to do is read Shelly Palmer's essays on convergence and you'll see it -- especially his &lt;a href="http://advancedmediacommittee.typepad.com/emmyadvancedmedia/2007/01/over_the_top_fi.html" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" title="http://advancedmediacommittee.typepad.com/emmyadvancedmedia/2007/01/over_the_top_fi.html"&gt;"Over the Top"&lt;/a&gt; article.)  However, no one knows what the top service will be.
