Mashable - The Social Media Guide: Verizon Holiday Ads Mock AT&T and the iPhone [VIDEOS]

  • David · 1 month ago
Highly effective, if it wasn't for AT&T's crappy customer service, and horrible performance of iPhones on their network it wouldn't be so bad. But everyone knows their 3G coverage sucks, customer service is beyond horrible, and iPhone performance on their network is awful.

These commercials made me laugh. Verizon is definitely doing better then AT&T with their ads.

Great commercial!!! Even though I'm a happy iPhone user. I had Verizon for years and dropped them cause their coverage in my area (North L.A) was worse than AT&T actually. And the Verizon stores around L.A. are bad too. Everytime I went in one - the employees were really rude. That's not to say AT&T is perfect either. I went into an Apple Store the other day and my iPhone kept dropping calls in that store!!

I TRIED to be an AT&T customer. I really really really did. But, having a phone that actually had a signal and could make a call without multiple drops was sort of a priority I couldn't overlook. After being told by AT&T customer service that the fault was mine for trying to use the phone in "rural" areas (like downtown Phoenix, for instance, and on a major interstate that travels through the city), I gave up. I hooked up a Verizon phone line and carried it with me. Whenever my AT&T phone lost a signal, I picked up the Verizon phone and was able to make the call and finish the conversation... Needless to say, my own little "test" made me a believer in the Verizon network. I gave up my Iphone dreams for good an renewed my nuptials with my Blackberry Curve.

@pamela gorman - Are you going to give the Droid a try? I had the Curve for work and I found it limiting. =/

Lawsuit city here we go - Not only they are attacking AT&T. It seems verizon is doing some fine-exaggerated tales on how they dominate AT&T on every aspect.

The Ludicrous video: There's a MAP for that

All is fair in "ads" and war, ayt? :D

lol.. It's true... I'll be waiting for AT&T's payback. Hope to be entertained once more.

Rankin Bass make the big time. You are no one until you are the chess board for a telecommunications throw down.

"It’s possible, however, that Verizon is attacking AT&T rather than the phone itself"

The ads are mocking AT&T not the iPhone, and this ad campaign is brilliant imo.

I think this ones are pretty funny. I really liked them and heck I am a AT&T Iphone User. But i think they are doing it, if indeed iphone is going to verizon as well on 2010, so that people buy the iPhone from them...and not AT&T. Either way...really creative and entertaining if you ask me :D

With that said, I can't wait to see what AT&T brings to the table. And if you think about it, this kind of ads are pretty viral. So it is a good thing for both companies.
  • Nick Beech · 4 weeks ago
I think they are effective, but not to a point where they will cause users to switch right now, if and when the iPhone comes to VZ, then maybe they'll switch over, but they'd have to buy a new phone (since their iPhone is setup for GSM instead of CDMA)
  • WVMikeP · 4 weeks ago
Funny thing is, looking at Verizon's map, they screw WV with their 3G coverage. However, I DO have reliable 3G coverage from AT&T.

NOBODY has coverage in that part of West Virgina, it's the National Radio Quiet Zone - NO radios are allowed in the area. http://www.gb.nrao.edu/nrqz/nrqz.shtml

"The National Radio Quiet Zone (NRQZ) was established by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in Docket No. 11745 (November 19, 1958) and by the Interdepartment Radio Advisory Committee (IRAC) in Document 3867/2 (March 26, 1958) to minimize possible harmful interference to the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) in Green Bank, WV and the radio receiving facilities for the United States Navy in Sugar Grove, WV. The NRQZ is bounded by NAD-83 meridians of longitude at 78d 29m 59.0s W and 80d 29m 59.2s W and latitudes of 37d 30m 0.4s N and 39d 15m 0.4s N, and encloses a land area of approximately 13,000 square miles near the state border between Virginia and West Virginia. "
  • WVMikeP · 4 weeks ago
I'm talking the Eastern Panhandle, where I have full coverage from AT&T. However, the NRQZ doesn't cover all of WV.

The reason I was on Cingular originally was because Verizon wasn't offering WV numbers at all for their cellular service.

Haha, I don't care if they may be untrue and way out of proportion... or if they are so clearly attacking each other. These are hilarious! :)
  • jhaff · 4 weeks ago
Obviously AT&T will respond and this will get very entertaining. Up until now it's been all about the device, NOT the network. The iPhone is still the killer device, and if people want it they are going to ignore the network issues... for a while. By the time the chorus is loud enough against the crappy AT&T network, the iPhone will be available on another network anyways (Q3 2010?). That's my guess.
  • facebook-562439659 · 4 weeks ago
These ads are going after AT&T and not the Iphone. If Verizon is getting the iPhone, they're leveraging this as an argument to get it through them and not AT&T as they make no comments about the iphones quality.
  • thetechnologycafe · 3 weeks ago
Verizon is doing pretty good now and I think At&T must improve its network rather than whining
