Mashable - The Social Media Guide: Verdict: AT&T Survives iPhone MMS Rollout

  • Pierce · 2 months ago
Nope, the MMS rollout hasn't affected my network condition at all :) Ours rolled out at 12:15pm.

Finally, AT&T has done something right.

I love the post, thanks for updating us on MMS rolling out. Reporting from Hawaii, we are up and running this morning.

Well actually, I can't get mine! I have an error message on iTunes, 0xE80003D. Perfect.

I'm getting failed MMSes now as are many I know - a few hours ago it worked fine.
  • Matt Snow · 2 months ago
Everything's workin just fine here. Sent about 15 or so.
  • Justin Thompson · 2 months ago
Everything is working fine here. Already sent and received nearly a dozen messages. Very happy to see that (so far) AT&T's network is handling it well.

I can't even send a regular text message now. My screen hangs. Here's what I see: http://ow.ly/i/1n9

The overall impact of the MMS rollout is currently just less than a 10% uptick in overall MMS ecosystem traffic in the USA, but this could increase as more iPhone subs upgrade.

Still, this is the best Friday afternoon in terms of traffic volume that we have seen.

    Way to go AT&T!

Considering the ease with which the iPhone can capture and distribute images and videos (particularly via email), does anyone really use MMS all that much?

I am going to update, just for the hell of it, but I really do not see me using it all that much...
  • Ed B. · 2 months ago
Really? Because I'm seeing nothing but #Fail tags all over Twitter. Is that an official AT$T statement or a Mashable statement?
  • jonfreeze · 2 months ago
    how do i work it?!
  • danthecreator · 2 months ago
the rollout of MMS for the iPhone definitely makes me much more satisfied! no more hearing people say, "your iPhone can do all that, but you can't send pics through text messaging? WTF!?"

however, it's still early in the rollout and i'd like to see how AT&T holds up.

I'm really interested to see what happens in the next few days as people begin to resync their phones and the service is more widely used.

I can receive pictures now but I cant send them with out getting an error "message failed" I called att and they tell my they can't troubleshoot it. They don't have the info on my problem. Instead told me to wait a few hours and try to send again to see if it works. No luck so far.

Great AT&T has given us all a new feature that will make it even harder for my phone when it has 4 bars of 3g signal to not be able to get a network connection. Obviously this doesn't make me love my iPhone more. I live in San Francisco and during the day I can not make a phone call in the heart of the financial district even though I have 3-4 bars. AT&T might have more bars but their service still sucks. I can't wait to go back to Verizon Wireless
  • Mark Sahm · 2 months ago
Agreed. Hopefully the cybersquatter on verizoniphone.com will start a petition that might get Verizon and Apple to agree to a deal that makes both of them AND the users happy. They get rich, we get good services and hardware. I can live with that.

My network did crash, my iPhone has been searching for service since 9 am.

Not working down here in Texas. All my friends are reporting the same thing. It sends about 90% then gets hung up and gives an error that it wasn't sent. And to think AT&T is based 10 minutes away from me...
  • xxdesmus · 2 months ago
haven't been able to receive an MMS message successfully -- it comes across as some garbled text that looks like code from a HTML webpage. I can send MMS just fine though.
  • jeffmccord · 2 months ago
Totally disagree with this article. AT&T gets a C at best. How many of us have had successful MMS's? I have. How many of us have had as many red exclamation points (errors) when sending? I have. It's on, off, on, off through out the entire afternoon here in DALLAS. Any one know why??

"It looks like the launch was smooth and uneventful." ... ahum ... http://search.twitter.com/search?q=mms+fail
  • Garra · 2 months ago
No problems with MMS in Jersey. It was not working until I synced up with itunes to get the patch.
  • Adrian Johnsen · 2 months ago
I got the update, but there is no change. Still can't get MMS.
  • Eric Schwartz · 2 months ago
I don't think the title is accurate. I am sitting on hold with AT&T to get my MMS service working. They FAIL.
  • John Paul Mitchell · 2 months ago
I've only been able to send one picture all day. That was early this morning before everyone else knew about the update was available in iTunes. Now that it's later in the day and with more people obviously using their iPhones to send MMS I can't get pictures to send. I've tried different pictures and sending to multiple people.

To me, AT&T has failed today!

It's time that Apple end their exclusive contract with AT&T and take their iPhone elsewhere, giving consumers a few more provider options.

    SORRY , WHAT' MEANS "MMS"
  • JimD · 2 months ago
No matter how many features AT&T adds, their voice service coverage still sucks, and they're still charging too much in monthly fees.
  • jrj073000 · 2 months ago
The iPhone is just NOW getting MMS? I expected more from Apple (http://adwido.com/view_content?vkey=0a37a84b572...)...
  • dylondillinger · 2 months ago
i'll get the first Verizon iPhone... let me know when that comes out ;)
  • markdavid · 2 months ago
My rollout was not remotely uneventful. Although I could receive MMS's easily enough, I was only able to send to 1 of the 5 numbers I tried (3 on AT&T, one each on Verizon and Sprint). I couldn't even send to a phone at AT&T tech support.

An hour on the phone (30 min with a useless customer service rep and 30 with a helpful but ultimately ineffectual tech) solved nothing, and the issue was "escalated"; I was promised a call-back.

I kept asking if it was a network issue; they kept saying it wasn't. But about four hours later it started working fine on it own, and has been find ever since. (AT&T, btw, has yet to call back.)

Anyone else got mms working great, but phone is dropping calls like crazy. Can't even use the phone.
  • sportsmackoffdotcom · 2 months ago
I wish the exclusivity contract would end... I'd love to be an iphone owner... but refuse to make the cross to ATT. Bring it to verizon!

Nice! Too bad I switched to another service. *cough* T-mobile *cough*
  • 2guys1blog · 2 months ago
I experienced sending failure as well.
  • Vangoghsear · 2 months ago
Still can't send MMS on the iPhone, so I would hardly call this rollout uneventful. Spent an hour on the phone with customer service and they are completely clueless. As of 8:30am I STILL can't send or receive. Regular text messaging works fine, but every time I attempt to send an MMS, I get the dreaded red exclamation point. Epic Fail.
