Mashable - The Social Media Guide: URL Toolbox: 90+ URL Shortening Services

  • Chris · 1 year ago
I used other short URL services, but Tiny URL is the best. One is enough I think.
  • alex · 1 year ago
I find these lists really tiresome. 90+?? That is almost like i have to do your research all over. I'd find it much more helpful for you to make an editorial pick of a few, provide use cases, make a more in-depth review, etc... And then attach the list - if you must. Just my 2 cents.
  • rscohn · 4 months ago
I agree! I'm just figuring this all out and feel just as in the dark about URL shortening services as I did when I came here looking for answers!

An editorial pick of 2 or 3 fav sites would be very helpful!! Put a star or something next to the ones you prefer...

    and then there is http://www.shredurl.com
  • Ben Smith · 1 year ago
    And Smallr.
  • Kevin · 1 year ago
This one doesn't exactly shorten a URL, but it does provide some utility. It allows you to offer a link that's only good for X number of clicks or a limited amount of time.

  • bunnyhero · 1 year ago

  • URL Shortening · 1 year ago
It's probably due to sites that offer the script for sale (the reason why there's so many URL shortening sites out there).
  • Rob · 1 year ago
If I can I’d like to plug the URL shortener service my website runs, urlShort at http://u.mavrev.com

Currently it offers a simple API for creation via a URL request, a bookmarklet, and the web form with more on the way.
  • Bruce · 1 year ago

    And another:

    Are we done yet?
  • Dave · 1 year ago
Effective July, 2008, the 301url.com service is no longer available.

Sorry to see you've got a lot of comment spam on this article, too. And I disagree that this article is useless. You've collected a lot of useful URL shortening services on one page, helping users to make an informed evaluation of the services that are available.
  • Jeff Ancel · 1 year ago
http://hurl.me, new fast and an awesome API for tweaking what you want to do with the service.

  • Raj · 7 months ago
I recently launched a website that provides URL shortening for "multiple" websites:

    http://www.viewista.com

Viewista creates a short URL for multiple websites. Plus, you can view the multiple sites all at once. We think, it can be a real time-saver. You can also post comments on the sites and share with your friends, making it a social URL sharing service. Viewista can be particularly useful on Twitter because a user can create a short URL for multiple sites on a topic without having to use multiple tweets.
  • Decaf · 6 months ago
Tried this service in different browsers but :
#A: in horizontal/vertical and column view after a few sec I get redirected to another page (none of mine)
#B: The "GroupMark Name" doesn't appear behind the slash, like in the example pages "Featured Groupmarks"
#C: The "viewvista bar' is huge, halve the page is taken!
    Conclusion: not very useful!
  • Lisa Thomas · 7 months ago
The one i use is http://PonyURL.com really like the logo and the color scheme- its ideal for me.
  • CL · 7 months ago
    earlme.com is King!
  • Joshua · 7 months ago
Personally, I prefer to use http://1url.com because it is the shortest ".com" URL shortener out there. I don't like using non-".com" shorteners because they're too tacky and ".com"' has a psychological sense of reliability. Their Twitter bookmarklet is very useful too.
  • @jearle · 7 months ago
Don't forget the 703rd most popular URL shortener on Twitter: http://tw3.it/
  • JohnnyC · 7 months ago

Your list is really cool. A collection. Can i add one simple shortening service from Italy?
http://url.to.it - It sounds simple as you can see.
  • Jobo · 7 months ago
http://lynk2.me offers standard random URLs (like lynk2.me/abc) as well as custom sub-domain URLs for members (like abc.lynk2.me). It also has a safe mode to view info about the destination before going by putting /safe/ in front of the link (like lynk2.me/safe/abc). You can also send an email to an address and it will reply back with a short URL.
  • Seb2.0 · 7 months ago
Has anyone tried Twi.tl http://twi.tl ? It's a new URL shortening service for Twitter.

  • marty · 5 months ago
Hi, you left out http://l.pr besides having the shortest URLs it allows you to embed the comment in the link, so instead of sending a comment + link, you can just send a link which contains your comment.
  • Nigel · 4 months ago
I'll add another to the already long list of services. I do think that you should only use one though depending on what your focus is - http://ushort.co.uk is useful for Shortening and SEO especially in the UK as it is a UK based domain!
  • Tim · 4 months ago
    Nice list you got there,
but I personally like http://x.vu a lot and it doesn't seem to be up there. It has the shortest domain possible and all the basic features. They're still in beta phase now, I heard they're working on a complete new system, with lot's of advanced features!
  • Martin · 4 months ago
Keep it short and stupid: http://qwx.si/
  • Christine P · 4 months ago
I was doing some research for my new blog and I had no idea that there were so many URL shorteners!!! I've just recently abandoned TinyURL for ow.ly (not your list, btw), but then have started using bit.ly because of its stats.

I remember TinyURL when it first came around 9ish years ago and recall thinking that its use would be limited to shortening those links that wrap and get cut off when you send emails. I wonder how many of these tools popped up because of Twitter.

    Terrific list!
  • Paul · 4 months ago
shrinklink.co.uk has a really memorable name (which I like) and a clean interface too !
  • adrenalini · 4 months ago
I'd also add http://trumpink.lt to that list :)
  • Paulius · 4 months ago
    Try http://ohcut.me new shortening service
  • Lanz · 4 months ago
Please check out fast & clean service.. http://linkpeak.com
  • Cherie · 4 months ago
You can add one more. A new one launched yesterday: bizy.be It has a fresh, fun, clean look, and they are adding customization and link tracking analytics to the free service in a week or so. Looks like it could give bit.ly and the other top services some serious competition. :-) http://bizy.be I used to use tinyURL and bit.ly, but have switched.
  • Matthias Denkmaier · 4 months ago
Hi Palin, I would like to inform you of our new service at http://apu.sh! Live Tracking, stats, custom URLs, passcodes, JSON API and many more should be worth mentioned! What do you think! I have already pushed the long URL of this article to http://apu.sh/urlshorteningservices ! ;-)
  • bendrix · 3 months ago
I find it odd that bit.ly wasn't mentioned. I think its funny how a handful of people have submitted links to this page using bit.ly
  • Joe Midway · 3 months ago
Another newer one for the list is http://3W.ca :)
