this isn't exactly true. Amazon's website has always stated as such, but I noticed I had not been incurring any charges, so I contacted their customer service department. I was told that they were waiving the fee temporarily... In the year I've had my Kindle this is the first time I've been charged for wireless uploading of personal documents.

I thought it was like an iPod, too. I'm simply too cheap to buy one right now, but it is good to know all the costs associated with it up front.

The fee is only if you transmit your personal files to the Kindle via Sprint's wireless network. You can still use Amazon's free file conversion service to transfer your files to the Kindle via USB for free.

I'm not 100% surprised by this move. You have to think about the fact that Amazon doesn't charge for access to the Whisper network. Giving people the ability to upload large documents via their network has to come at a cost.
