Mashable - The Social Media Guide: Twittermania: 140+ More Twitter Tools!

  • Frank · 1 year ago
Well researched and unbelievable. I didn't know Twitter had this much functionality. This is great for all wannabe twitter experts. Good work Palin :)
  • chada · 1 year ago
    WOW~NICE COLLECTION!

Nowadays more and more Chinese begin to use twitter. Though twitter is not a Chinese application and there are also some alke Chinese applications such as Fanfou.com and Jiwai.de, we just addict to it.

One problem is that some of these tools do not support Asia characters like Chinese, korean and Japanese.
  • Scott · 1 year ago
Great list. Please add Twisney for the Disney fans out there - http://www.twisney.com. Great mashup where Disney World meets Twitter meets Flickr meets Virtual Earth.
  • Colin · 1 year ago
I still don't get why someone would want to waste their life announcing "Honey, I'm Home" to no-one in particular?

Who would tempt fate so much as to announce "This meeting is going great. Should sell a ton of these!"?

Would I really want to know a friend has dumped their latest flame? Or is planning beans on toast for supper?

If I want to know what's going on with friends, I call or email them. Twitter seems totally pointless and this list just looks like a "What else can we add onto this program to try to drive uptake?". Uploading MP3?..good grief, how exciting - not.
  • David Jackmanson · 1 year ago
Isn't lecturing people on how pointless Twitter is even more pointless than Twitter itself, grumblebum?
  • limeshot · 11 months ago
The point of Twitter is NOT to let the world know you've just had a second burger; the point of Twitter is to build and access a network of people who can provide you with information, help, contacts, contracts, fun etc - and provide the same in return. It's the old "networking" concept brought into the digital age. Nothing wrong with that.
  • Kevin · 1 year ago
Few are missing: twitbin, twitslikeme, twitterholics, twitsig...
  • Spuds · 1 year ago
The world has gone Twitter crazy. Not hard to see why, it is very addictive. For my part I use Twhirl.

If you dont want to hand over your twitter usernames and passwords to a third party website but want to implement a "keyword" autofollow
    Or
if you are running multiple accounts and need more than 100 api hits an hour (if you get your ip address whitelisted you can get 20,000 api calls an hour).

Then check out http://www.MyTwitterButler.com for $10 it's a windows .net application that run directly on your pc instead of in the cloud.

    It does two things;

1/ Auto Follows Users with up to 4 search terms per twitter account (allows multiple accoutns - I run mine with 11 accounts simultaneously but it slows it down).

2/ Direct Message Broadcast - you can send a direct message to all you users with just one click.

    Cheers,
    Dean

I wonder if people realize this is the kind of thing that is killing twitter. All of these things using the API can't be a good thing, think about it. Granted twitter is also at blame for not providing many of these things out of the box (no official AIR client like pownce)
  • Glenn Rubenstein · 1 year ago
Brain overload! Too much twitter! ARGH!

    Strange...

My favortie tool is a google gadget I just came across, twittergadget.com. I add it my homepage, and I have a nice, clean twitter interface that auto-refreshes to keep my timeline current. This way, I never miss a tweet, and don't have to install any additional applications to do so.
  • dmanf · 1 year ago
C'mon, at least link back to this guy: http://www.steverenner.com/incredible-twitter-t...

You've even taken exactly the same pictures as him and listed all the tools in exactly the same order. What a shame. I like Mashable, but you need to at least link back to the guy.
  • dmanf · 1 year ago
Forget that last comment. I didn't look at the date properly, seems like the guy probably stole the article from you. My bad - good list.

Shrink2One.com: Need to share more than one link in a tweet? Shrink2one.com puts together all the links and provides you one link that you can share on Twitter. As you might have understood, this can be used not just with Twitter, but also with emails, IMs, SMS, etc.
You can give these links a title and can password protected too.

You should add www.tweetmyjobs.com to the list. It allows you to get job postings that you are interested in via Twitter....
  • CharlieProfit · 9 months ago
I think you got Twitcal backwards. You don't post to Twitter your Google Calendar events, but you can pot TO your calendar FROM Twitter. Correct me if I am wrong on this, but that is the way I interpret it. :)
  • James · 6 months ago
We've recently released TwitCal.com. It's a simple web application that allows you to use Twitter as a calendar. Send a tweet including the date like dd/mm/yyyy or May 13th 2009 plus your message. You can view your calendar by visiting http://www.twitcal.com
  • daniel · 9 months ago
http://twoxit.com is also a good one - embed a twitter update form on your website.
  • undauntedTwit · 8 months ago
Excellent resource! I'd also like to add http://twitcharts.com to the list. A simple wizard to the Google chart API that let's you tweet charts to your Twitter account. I created this while on a coffee break. :)

that is some good information. I think it is important new users or people that are wanting massive followers can use the same tools upcoming signed recording artist are using. I found 3 links that a new recording artist is using and people say will have over a million followers soon!
If you are wanting over a million I suggest you get on board with them before they get banned!

A lot of the tools listed on this page DO NOT work. The links are dead, the domains unregistered completely, or they are just park pages. Please test the links and remove them from the article. I am only halfway through it and I already found 10 that do not work.

Thank you for sharing these twitter tools. I have just noticed the one on iphones which I also appreciated and then now came across this one for twitter. This is great stuff and it really gets me excited! I am also very excited about Stephen Pierce's post called Twitter Resource Guide on his blog that I want to share. It has 201 Twitter Tools and Twitter Apps. It's a free pdf download on his blog http://www.dtalpha.com/talkback/?p=355

I'm looking for a tool where I can take an RSS feed, run it through a filter to abbreviate keywords, then push it to twitter. I'm posting crash information for the state of Tennessee and would love to shorten words like northbound, southbound, eastbound, and westbound to NB, SB, EB, WB. There are other key words I would like to abbreviate as well. Know of any thing that would do this?
  • Justin K. · 5 months ago
Great post! You should add Ref.ly to your list. It's an amazing new tool for turning Bible verses into short URLs.
  • Iser · 5 months ago
an other great tool was just released by www.clusterurl.com that should add to the 'Twittermania'

a Firefox add-on that allows users to 'cluster' multiple tabs into a single clusterurl. the clusterurl contains thumbnails of all the tabs and can be posted to twitter as a single update.

    Happy Clustering
