There's another new "feature": you can see replies directed and coming from people you follow. For example: if I follow person_A and person_B, I see all tweets from person_A starting with @person_B and vice versa.. not sure if it's a bug or a feature :P

I see the new tab, but the results are still the same for me -- @bitfaker same as Replies, does not include mentions. UPDATE: nevermind, new tweets show up in there.

Things should keep improving with time and that’s what exactly Twitter is doing these days. Currently it’s ranked 91/100 but soon it will reach the top, with its growing popularity among the youth. The changes made in Twitter are a great add on for those of us that use Tweetdeck as it helps track mentions of entities and participants much better than before. PowerTwitter, the Firefox Addon, has this feature too. It adds a tab called 'Mentions' in the navigation. However, nice to see Twitter implementing it.

Why more people don't use TweetGrid http://tweetgrid.com instead of standalone TweetDeck is mostly a mystery to me. It's more customizable and accessible from any web-connected computer, anytime.

I welcome this change. It helps track mentions of entities and participants much better. On a selfish note, it helps us when performing semantic analysis of Twitter data. We do not have to do too much NLP stuff. At Twielsen (http://twielsen.com), we have built a TV rating system based on Twitter chatter, so the @mention will help us identify mentions of TV shows and channels much easier. I am looking forward to Twitterers adopting this.

Great update, but it's not working on my end. I see replies in my TweetDeck column that I don't see on my mentions page.

I too am searching for my user nirvana. I am trying Tweetdeck but it's lack of customization challenges my love of it's other features. That and the fact that it has massive memory creep is problematic. I personally need auto refreshing (love your frequency idea) and the ability to view various filtered streams. I used to use Twitterific but it was limiting. Twhirl is just plain garsh. You're clearly not a noob but I wonder how you stay so active via the web interface? Aren't you constantly hitting browser refresh?

I actually use the web interface and i'm not a Newbie (but i'm not sure what your standards for Newbs are). I'm very visual and like the web interface. I personally can not stand the user interface for Tweetdeck. It may work well for some, but I can not get past the visual aspect of it. I DO have to stare it. I've been using search.twitter.com to search for @db, but now i'll use @db tab because i follow people with locked updates, and their updates do not show up in the public timeline.

Truly a step in the right direction as you say above.

As far as refreshing, I see Twitter adding a on/off switch for stream flow management. Either you can experience your stream in a constant flow or as you refresh it. Eventually I see a speed setting from 'slow' to 'normal' coming into play.

I agree with Louis here, but it took Twitter this long to change from @replies to @mentions, so who knows how long it will be before you can customize your @mentions tab. That being said, there have been a lot of changes in the past few weeks. I see more changes coming faster which will all lead up to a viable monetization model launched relatively soon.
