What is even more upsetting than the fact the service is "frozen" is the fact that Twitter only updates their Status Blog after the fact. Seems pointless to have the status blog if you aren't going to tell everyone whats going on and just let everyone vent in search. Rather, if you told everyone what was going one there might not be a reason to go off....

If I post to my own account, it shows up on my stream, but nothing else does.
Going to individuals' twitter streams seems to show their posts, so it seems to be the propagation/compilation of streams that's at fault. Thankfully, it means that our publication's Twitter stream (@thestage), while not propagating via Twitter, is at least being picked up and ditributed through Facebook.

if your "following" number dropped to zero, that would make sense that your timeline would stop updating -- since you're technically not following anyone. so i think the problem isn't with tweets sending/receiving... it's with everyone's following lists. mine just came back to its regular number, and i started to see some updates that had been missed previously. it's going to be a slow process for everyone to come back from 0 following glitch.

it's weird -- it's not normal. tweets are coming in from BEFORE my own last tweet -- like it's playing catch-up with missed tweets. every few minutes i'll refresh to see if anything newly mysterious happened, and sometimes there will be a tweet that wasn't there before. hmmm....

I found a temp solution to the Timeline problem. Unollow the people you care about the most. Then refollow then then they will show in your timeline. I just did thid and It worked.

Twitter timeline frozen for 2 hours, only my own tweets are visible. Following & Followers jump to 0 every once in a while since 9 am (GMT + 1). @replies seem to be working but followers do not receive updates either. As if Twitter account isolated from the rest.

That's what the frozen timeline entry at Twitter Support says. As for me, other people's tweets are sloooowly appearing in my timeline, but no sign of total recovery.

search.twitter.com often keeps working when the main Twitter site is down. During outages, I use it to see whether or not tweets are getting into Twitter while they're not getting "out" (posted).
Now, if you want to talk about ridiculous outages, Brightkite's been dead since "upgrading" their system on Monday.

I initially blamed HootSuite, but then I tried Twhirl and Web and saw everything had come to a halt at 9:45 CST. HOWEVER, I was able to received an @reply at 11:51 in HootSuite. I wonder if DMs are working...

I think I may have figured out what is going on. Twitter has been down for the last few hours - and it's National Poetry Day in the U.K. today. No one is going to convince me that this is a coincidence. Perhaps I have seen too many movies or something, but I feel certain that this Twitter is down because there is undoubtedly an embarrassment of verses (probably everything from iambic pentameter to free verse) flying from poet to poet today, a particularly virulent form of poet-to-poet networking which is taking up all of the bandwidth. Mind you, I have not really looked too deeply into this (like I needed to tell you this).

Usually when this happens with Twitter, you can see your Tweets, any direct @replies to you as well as DMs. Also, if you just start following someone during a freeze, you can often see their Tweets as well for some reason.
