I haven't noticed any odd tweets in my stream, but I have noticed that Twitter says I have 25 people following me, but I can only count 20 when I go to my Followers list.

Same here, and it's been going on for quite a while now - TweetLater's Vet New Followers and FriendorFollow give me different totals, and neither matches up with either the number of e-mail alerts I get about new followers or the figures Twitter shows me. Also, even though I've followed someone, if I check back with their account later it shows me NOT following them. This is going to lose people a whole lot of goodwill as well as followers, and does nothing for confidence in Twitter's reliability.

I've noticed it. A workaround is to follow and then unfollow the people you shouldn't be seeing in your list. That fixes it.
i don't follow ashton kutcher ... but he's always in my feed ... odd!

I've noticed this a couple of times, this "glitch" seems to be affecting DM as well, since I've received messages from people I clearly wasn't following.
This on top of the fact that random accounts seem to double their follower number and drop back a few hours later (ie. http://bit.ly/G8PlK ) makes me believe that there are more issues with Twitter than they would like to admit.

It happened to me. I'm getting tweets from a person (or bot) that I'm not following. It's annoying.
Twitter also unfollowed for me. I got a DM from a friend who I had been following: "how come you're not following me anymore?" When I clicked on his profile, it had the "follow" button under his pic, not the "you are following..." I needed to click it again to follow him.
It's good that I caught it, but I wonder who else they removed. I'm following over 800 people.

I haven't seen other tweeps tweets in my feed but I have noticed that the Follower counts don't match the number of people in the follower list (> 50% discrepancy). Not sure if it's possible, but Twitter should BAN auto-follows!

I noticed people I follow are unfollowed for months now. It's pretty much a disaster when you're using twitter for community building. I've had friends/people I follow point out that I'm not following them anymore... most are understanding when I explain... but it's still awkward. I recently started to pay better attention the people following me stack via PeopleBrowsr. That way, I just refollow if I notice that they've been unfollowed. Can't wait for this bug to be fixed! There's another similar issue. Twitter really forgets who you're following. You follow Tweeters and wait maybe 10 seconds. Then you update the page and you do not follow them. At your account the number of "following" does not change. I got that for the second time now. A friend of mine for the third time. It takes minutes before it starts working again. None of those followed accounts blocked us.

something similar happens to me, I am supposedly following asthon but I do not receive his tweets for a couple of weeks now , but I.m still see him on my following list and I do not think that he went to all the trouble to look for me in a sea of the thousands and thousands of followers and then decided to block me... then I was looking for a friend in my followers list and nada she wasnt showin up and when I was able to find her I noticed that we were following each other like it was suppossed to be since the begining ....still she doesnt show on my followers/following lists

Sorry for the double comment. I went away and made coffee while the comment was still loading. I don't know why it kept trying to finish and didn't. I came back and it was still loading. So I refreshed the page and then just went back to the original post only to see it posted twice.

I dont know abt this problem - but a big problems for about 2 months now is PEOPLE not showing up in a SEARCH - they (and that includes me) are on TWITTER - -but if you try to search , you do not appear - - but you have been posting away like an idiot....lasttime I checkd - complaints were in the thousands and no fix in site

Now they can't seem to get the difference between my two accounts, one for lighter musings and one for more political infornation. It sure is screwing up my political detractors, who have now defined my as the ugly face of soclialism...wait! that was supposed to be under the portrait that looks more like a NYTimes editorial columnist, not the warm fuzzy one here! Sorry Eddie Burke, your @talkradio.. bleep is having a helluva time figuring out who to hate and who to court to come battle it out with you on your show.

The guys behind Twitter need to do some serious work to get all the bugs and kinks ironed out. There isn't a day goes by that I don't read about a new bug. Strange how a site that is so successful can have so many publically known issues. I know it comes hand in hand with the terratory of develpment though but I would image that they have a large team of employees that should be on top of this. Seems they are struggling to keep up with the pace of Twitters rapid growth.
Still though this won't deter me from using it. Working on integrating Twitter into http://loopthing.com at the moment.

This has been happening to me for months, and no, following and then unfollowing has not helped. Neither has blocking, unblocking, blocking again. One tweeter in particular has been more annoying than the others, although I've encountered at least a half dozen accounts this happens with. None have been spam, just users I have zero interest in following.
And I have *never* used my Twitter credentials on another site. I'm paranoid. :)

I have that very problem. regular tweets appear in my stream from someone I don't follow. Their profile is locked and, if I attempt to unfollow, twitter won't allow me. I have tweeted @spam but have had no kind of feedback. Really annoying!

I had a different problem. My home page is find, I don't see weird messages from people I don't follow. But, my following on my profile had only 3 pictures! But, the amount on the following is right. I tried follow and unfollow, but it doesn't work. How to solve this problem?

My following in my profile sidebar is wrong, but my homepage shows the correct one. My time line works fine and my following and followers count is correct.
