i agree they need a new video. the thing is that twitter "concept" have changed by the use twitters have given to it, which i find great.
it is clear that the lead "what are you doing right now" was out of date...and i think kept a lot of potential users out of it, including me until recently.
i think most of twitters value is in its search tool but it seems that having it without the need of login in will not help to increase its user base...
anyways, there would always be passive and active users, so at the end i think the move is positive in the sense that it will help understand no-users what is twitter about and what is happening around it...
finally, i hope people stop using twitter to say they are going to sleep...etc, it's annoying!
excuse my english!

English must be your second or third language. Native English-speakers haven't taken the word "talking" that literally since three minutes after the first "chat room" went online.

Either way it still is grammatically in-correct, search box or not. It should be "See what people are tweeting about... _____." To be really half-wittedly pedantic no tweeter's saying anything, they're writing & reading tweets and not in that order. But then I spose being an Internet troublemaker and mildly anti-social dinner conservationist, your not open to other peoples ideas.

It's a "good old fashioned search engine" that's dependent entirely on user submissions.and dores spam-filtering by hand. As far as search engines go, that's 1997 technology. This would be considered a joke if it was launched by anybody but Twitter.

I like the new Twitter home page, but think they should have left the "what is twitter" link - a video or a page about what it is.

And the "join the conversation" box should be more prevalent as its too easy to confuse the page with a search engine. Even after you search for something, there is little to say what to do with that list of results. Perhaps each tweet should have a "reply to this Tweet - Join or login now" or something else to explain it. You get the standard "this person is on twitter" box if you click on one of the links in a tweet, but does this make twitter any less confusing for a newbie?

Just not sure they have done enough to help initiate new visitors to what Twitter is or why they should use it. I would like to see something about building friends/family lists to keep in touch, interactivity of conversations and explanation of replies/direct messages, etc. Perhaps on a separate page, but I do think they need SOMETHING more than making twitter look like a search engine.

I like it! I will say, though, that I probably never would have seen the new homepage had I not read this post. I use a lot of third-party stuff and haven't seen the homepage in a month or so. However, I agree with MathieuB in that the homepage is mostly for people joining or still new to Twitter and still an important and relevant landing page for many. Great job on this one, Twitter!

Quite a lot still. Then again, keep in mind that this new homepage is mainly aimed at people who have yet to subscribe to Twitter and wonder what all the buzz is about and go visit it for kicks.

I love the new homepage.. It shows the popular topics that people search.. I like the new design and it's a great color also.. It is very great and one the best so far :) Love it!!!
