Mashable - The Social Media Guide: Twitter Confirms It: Ellen DeGeneres a Good Choice for Idol

  • Nicoleta · 2 months ago
I haven't watched American Idol in years, it became dull after a few seasons personally. I didn't even know Paula was gone until a few days ago. XP And worse, who's Ellen Degeneres? o.o

Ellen Degeneres is exactly what the show needs: a humorous person who is good natured.

On top of that she's a positive, successful person. She adds an entirely new dimension to the show.

Will this work with Idol's audience? I think so. She's pretty darn popular among all types of people. Couldn't have her # of twitter followers if she wasn't ;)

I couldn't stomach the other judge's arrogance. Lame or mean-spirited attempts at being funny don't sit well with most people.

I don't watch the show, but have seen clips here and there. I agree with Ryan. The show, like others, needs to constantly reinvent and refresh itself and this is a smart move. She'll add another dimension - good natured humor - that will play well against the other judges.

Are we going to have three guys and one woman on American Idol now?

    Idiot.

Don't you have to know how to sing, or otherwise know something about music for that gig? (guess not). She *is* funnier than hell though.

Perhaps I am in the minority here - will likely not watch Idol - do not care for Ellen D. PC or not, I find her extremely annoying !?!

I think it's fantastic. I have only watched the ending show...maybe caught a few here and there...but I think with Ellen on board I will catch them all. I think she is the BEST! I've watched Ellen from the start of her career and she has the best vision on life.

I love her HBO special and wish there was more of her on that type of thing. I think she is a very busy woman but it's all good!!

Ellen can't dance, I mean come on, have you actually watched her??!! She worked on a dance skit for 2 weeks and she TOTALLY SUCKED DID YOU WATCH HER?! She surely can't sing, she sounds like a cat under a rocking chair and her humor is utterly ridiculous, all she does is make others say and do her stupid crap, so what good is she? .................And she's a terrible twitter'r all she does is promote her REPEAT shows with optional money giveaways, I will NOT be watching American Idol any more! What a friggin' joke - NOT!!

I hope american idol falls apart now with losing the one appealing part of the show was Paula Abdul. With Degenerate in the show what happened to any sense of family or decency.

Paula wasnt all the great anyway. Ellen would be a much better host. I thing American Idol knows that...

I think they should bring Dane Cook in as a judge.

I like Ellen ok but does have the creds to judge talent or is it just a ratings move for a tired concept?
  • Calvin Chin · 2 months ago
I think it's a great move. It also allows us to laugh at her jokes rather than Simon's insults to others. Plus it offers diversity and will make people see the need for equality :)

Using Social Media to measure and predict public opinion can be extremely reliable. We used Twitter and a number of other web and social measurements to predict that Barack Obama would win the US Presidential Election on August 7, 2007! For a look at our prediction and the social media methodology, here is our press release: http://www.tengoldenrules.com/pr-election-winne...
