Mashable - The Social Media Guide: Twitter Brand Sponsors: Mashable’s New Sociable Ad Format

  • Calli · 9 months ago
This is great news and just as we were all on the edge of our seats outguessing lol

So it is featured sponsors after all.

Love the idea of the charity of the month.

I think this is a really good idea and Dan is doing some pretty awesome things. No better place then here to test a new format.

    Best of luck.

So far Mashable + Dan Zarella + Twitter seem to equal the ingredients for simple-yet-brilliant social media innovations.

I love this idea for non-obtrusively using Twitter as an advertising medium & revenue stream.

Looking forward to what you guys come up with next!

(PS - Loving each of the improvements Mashable's been implementing as of late. Especially love that rather than resting on your laurels, you guys keep getting better! Nice work!)

Thanks Faryl. Making sponsorships better and more engaging is a tough challenge: as I said when we launched the redesign, we want to reach a point where readers like our ads and engage with them...that way everyone wins.

"that way everyone wins" - Selfishly, I love that instead of just pimping out the site, your partnerships are driving some new technologies that readers can implement on our sites as well!

the negative of technology acceleration is that we see new trends worn off sooner. there is no value proposition to this "twitter brand" sponsors concept, other that rephrasing / rehashing yesterday's buzz-words (the engaging brand, social media, Web 2.0 all over again etc) and charging your already existing sponsors for it. new concepts are not living longer cycles, but are becoming obsolete faster. As electronics and cheap flights became usual, information exchange was next. wait until any awe regarding it dissipates but start looking already how economics are the new commodity. the signs are on IP controversy, but we are only looking at the tip of the iceberg - why is "Microsoft" a brand worth protecting more than "128.1.91.85.in-addr.arpa" if you could use IP as currency. Economics 2.0 will mature probably in less than ten years, and whatever "entities" will be then engaging with their "clients" then, prospects are they will not be using English but some open API to talk to each other.

Of course I disagree. While static ads have their place, engagement-based advertising works harder to build a relationship. It's a relationship that's likely to outlast the ad itself (especially if people consider a brand interesting enough to follow it).

As such, I think engagement-based ads provide more long term value, not less.

Do you plan to release the code for others to use at some point and if so when? It looks very interesting and I hope that it takes off!

I think you've hit the Jack-Pot, guys! Perhaps Twitter can take on this Idea and monetize it.

    Looks cool...

I love how not only are we seeing a pre-compiled brand message from these adds, but the fact that we see their most recent message adds a lot of credibility in my view. Getting a snap shot of whether they are talking about them selves or have marketing focused messages versus community focused dialog will very much influence me to follow them.

It's nice having greater transparency and knowing if I'll want to follow them right from Mashable.

Love the concept, but doesn't appear to be working in 2.8 (or is it just me?).
