Mashable - The Social Media Guide: Twellow: The People Search That Twitter Should’ve Built

We really need something like this for Plurk
  • Oli · 1 year ago
I can't make my mind up over Plurk. I like it, but no-one seems to use it. All my followers, and the people I follow for example.
  • Oli · 1 year ago
Now this I like. Why doesn't Twitter have this built in?

both this and Summize should be a part of Twitter. It's a great API and all, but search is such a big feature and Twitter is just handing the keys to others ... Oh well, awesome tools either way.

Categories are a little subpar. Horrid yellow. Don't know if I would actually revisit the site or just straight out google the categories instead? Easy business to duplicate and beat (site redesign?).

Impressive work. And really fast to get the result of a search query. But I do not have the full picture: (1) Disclaimer: I do not like directories in general (2) sounds like they scanned the content of the bio to decide in which category you are. OK. But what if I want to edit the category I'm belonging? (3) I am a bit disappointed there is no label/tag system.

good feedback ... they note that their site is "public pre-alpha" so I'm sure they are working on some of these things :-)

Hey. Wow. I am going to have to be more mature around my social networks. As a result of this new tool, I had to change my Twitter bio to be a little more serious. Include words like Entrepreneur and Woman. Twellow doesn't have a category for Internet Millionaire :) . Shame.

I have just been seeking the right people to follow and this will help immeasurably.. thanks!

The problem with making these excellent tools part of Twitter itself is that they'd be unavailable half the time ;)

What part of the definition of "communication utility" don't you understand Adam?

Why bother with cluttered front ends when others will build them when you are in the middle of ALL communications. They still control everything.

perhaps the making money part of it? Search is where the lion's share of money is made online and Twitter has effectively ceded it to others

Good addition to Twitter tools. It seems one of the best ways to find interesting new people in Twitterland.

Remind me again why Twitter is not building this stuff in the tool it self?

We're going to be seeing a lot more functionality on Twitter itself once they get the platform stabilized. This app is necessary but not sufficient.

@rykos, the thing is that it searches people based on their bio. You can't do that with google--just search all of the twitter domain, i.e. all the tweets and bios, which is still very useful, but not the same.

...Anyway, I wonder what would happen if Twitter straight-up started to charge for use of their API? I bet they'd make a pretty penny, but wouldn't be able to last more than a year or two after that.

I love Twellow. It is a great tool. This is definitely something Twitter should have built themselves.

I agree that this is a feature Twitter should have implemented to make the service more useful. Maybe Twitter should use some of its $15-million in new cash to buy it along with Summize.
  • David Fry · 1 year ago
    It's another nice little tool.

I think twitter should use their spare cash to:

    1) stabilize the platform
    2) buy summize or twitscoop (with a strong preference for the second one, which does the same as summize + live visualization tool of twitter's topics)
    3) buy twellow

And with this no Plurk of this world will be able to fight back.

This is just the directory I've been looking for!

I've been asking our blog visitors to share their Twitter profiles with fellow visitors as it's not always easy to know who likes what on Twitter so I'm glad I found this.

This is going to be a great resource for headhunters and job recruiters as well as people looking to find other people and friends on Twitter.
