Mashable - The Social Media Guide: Tweetie 2.0 Now in the iPhone App Store

  • Jared · 2 months ago
It's incredible! Using it now and it exceeds my expectations. Can't wait for Twitter to release the upcoming API's!
  • Brandon_Sheley · 2 months ago
it's pretty lame that "tweetie" and "tweetie 2" aren't the same thing
meaning I paid 3$ for tweetie, now if I want the 2.0 version I have to buy it again
I'll stick with twitfon, aka echofon

Do we REALLY have to pay for this "upgrade". I know it's a full re-write of the original code...but REALLY? $3 for a twitter client was steep to begin with..... so why is the "upgrade" the same price as the original one? $1 for the upgrade would be much more reasonable
  • Austin Passy · 2 months ago
I agree! Luckily I don't have an iPhone, but my girlie does. That's just retarded.
  • craighuff · 2 months ago
So, if you have Tweetie version 1.* (currently 1.3.2) it doesn't look like 2.0 will be a free upgrade? I'm just quoting the iTunes store:

"*** Notice: Tweetie 2 is coming soon! It's a whole new app -- $2.99 just like the original..."

So we have to pay $2.99 again for an app. [upgrade] we already bought for...$2.99? I've never really seen an app. do this that was originally paid. Yes, I've of course seen free apps. do this (hooks you on the free app., get you to upgrade to the paid app.), but never this way. Very odd.

It's a shame mashable doesn't have an optimized view for mobile users. #fail
  • r0cketman22 · 2 months ago
Mashable DOES have a mobile view. However, when clicking on a link from Tweetie, it directs you to the full version.
  • r0cketman22 · 2 months ago
It's worth far more than $2.99.

Also, it's not an upgrade. It's a whole new app. Built from the ground up.
  • prsarahevans · 2 months ago
Just bought it because version 1 has been my favorite mobile Twitter app. Looks like it *might* have a few bugs. Just locked up my iPhone when I started digging into the app. Love the new functions though.
  • deestewart · 2 months ago
I just downloaded Tweetie 2.0 because my current Twitter app wasn't enough for me. Tweetie 2.0 exceeds my expectations and is much more powerful than my last. I love it.
  • Jonathan Růžek · 2 months ago
UGLY. Bring back the chat bubbles!
  • Justin J. Dean · 2 months ago
Still no push notifications and they want me to spend $2.99 again? Pretty lame.
  • Joe Dawson · 2 months ago
Tweetie 2.0 isn't free and doesn't display as an Update in the AppStore.

I now have both Tweetie 1.3.2 and 2.0 installed and operating independently!
  • craighuff · 2 months ago
Yeah, that's my only complaint. I think they should have offered it as a free upgrade for people that paid for 1.0. See my post above. Odd they didn't.
  • Hesham · 2 months ago
Wonderful news, I still getting all good things about iPhone.. hope i can get one soon!
  • Roy Vergara · 2 months ago
what happened to themes? I liked the dark background.
  • Alex Reynolds · 2 months ago
The user interface seems fairly consistent but cleaned up substantially. Seems a lot smoother. Worth the update for me.
  • Aaron · 2 months ago
Why did they remove the ability to change the overall theme? I miss the black theme appearance that was once available in settings.

What was the reason for removal?

Okay let me just say that I have been a Tweetie user since the app first came around. When I saw the 2.0 was coming I was really excited! Then I saw that it was a separate app and I would have to pay $2.99 again and was kinda disappointed. Eventually I got over it ...Tweetie 1 is working fine so I have no need to upgrade anyway. After I saw this post I looked up Tweetie in the app store and it completely GONE! There is only Tweetie 2 now. So not only do us loyal customers not get the free update if something happens to Tweetie 1 it looks like we are double shafted....either we are forced to buy the upgrade or move on to another app. Why it still surprises me that American company's(even small ones) can be so greedy? I have no clue....

Looking forward to using Tweetie. My biggest complaint w/TweetDeck (for iPhone) is that the 'cancel' button is so damn close to the writing space...I've lost a bunch of tweets and had to start all over because TweetDeck also does not include a save/draft function. That frustration alone is worth the $2.99!

It's COMPLETELY BOGUS that previous purchasers of Tweetie should have to pay for this supposed 2.0 version. They rename it Tweetie 2, then go on the web and proclaim that it's a completely new app. BS!!!!!!!!!! If they're relying on the name-equity that "Tweetie" gives them, it's a REVISION / UPGRADE of the previous Tweetie app version.

I see that the original Tweetie is now gone from the App Store. If Tweetie 2 was "all new", why would they remove Tweetie? Three bucks won't end the world, but this developer is being greedy and has lost the benefit of the doubt with me. I won't "upgrade" if I have to pay AGAIN. If anything happens to the Tweetie app in my phone and I can't reload/reinstall it, I'll gladly pay for a DIFFERENT app.

Too bad really. Tweetie is such a good app. They got greedy and over-reached.

ChapBros Media is pleased to announce, SHOW OFF, the worldwide talent competition EXCLUSIVELY on Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch.

ChapBros Media is the brainchild of Duane Lee Chapman, Wesley D. Chapman and Leland B. Chapman, the sons of world famous DOG The Bounty Hunter. ChapBros Media has just received the thumbs up from Apple Inc. and is excited for the launch of SHOW OFF in the app store this upcoming week!

SHOW OFF gives users the ability to submit videos of their talents and vote via the iPhone or iPod Touch for their favorite video submissions. Weekly prizes will be given for the overall winners and every 14 weeks one Ultimate SHOW OFF will be crowned!

As SHOW OFF develops so will the prizes! Due to Apple’s restrictions, ChapBros Media is unable to give away cash prizes. But the Chapman brothers have a few ideas up their sleeves! Prizes will consist of t-shirts, bags, hats, guitar straps, drum sticks, flip video cameras, mugs and more.

ChapBros Media has taken their business plan to the social community in a very effective and aggressive way. By utilizing MySpace, Facebook and Twitter the Chapman brothers have not only created hype, but have turned their fans into active marketing agents. Teams have been created and given critical duties to help grow the SHOW OFF project and the ChapBros Media brand. Teams are assigned missions and each team is rewarded for the completion of these missions.

Not only does this bring the fans closer to the project and the Chapman brothers, it also fuels viral and social marketing. In just days the ChapBros Twitter, MySpace and Facebook accounts have gathered thousands of fans and are growing every day.

ChapBros Media will be releasing other iPhone apps in the coming weeks and will continue to release apps through out 2009 and 2010.

The article doesn't make the case declared by the headline. This developer priced his software too low to sustain free upgrades and his customers are cheap. How would the App Store allowing paid upgrades change this? He'd still want to charge, and people would still complain. The fundamental flaw here is the initial low price, and that's not the fault of the App Store.
  • FontSizeJunky · 1 month ago
It doesn't have font size configuration like Tweeie version 1 did. This is a big fail for me, if I knew they'd taken this away, I wouldn't have bought it.
