I only hope TweetDeck finally gets round to porting their iphone application to Windows Mobile.
I'm in desperate need of a Twitter application that is actually usable, finger friendly and free..

I like the Tweetdeck PC app but when it comes to their iPhone app its been missing too many tweets. I will check TweetDeck and no new tweets. Then go to Tweetie and have 5 new tweets. Go back to TweetDeck and still nothing. Later a new tweet will show up in both but TweetDeck still hasnt received the previous 5. Just what i want from a twitter app.

Interesting read. I am actually a user of both apps. I prefer Tweetie because it is more reliable. The iTweetDeck is way more visually stunning. The TweetDeck has got stuck on a load twice, and I hate that so Tweetie is the main and TweetDeck is on the bench. Don't sleep on Reportage for the iPhone if you are looking for a new Twitter experience.

One thing I saw in your post was that you mentioned one needs to create the DM and Reply columns.. that's not true, when you load the app 3 standard columns are created. Timeline/ DM's/Replies.

Just an observation.

The landscape typing mode of Tweetie, integration with ping.fm, and the ability to view trends has left Tweetie on my iPhone, but I do have to admit that Tweetdeck is very very impressive for a first release.

I think Tweetie is still the best client. Mostly because it's lightning fast. It does everything faster than every iPhone client out there. That being said, I think Twitterific's UI is the prettiest overall. The nod, though, has to go to TweetDeck for overall features & flexibility. They've done a terrific job of transferring the desktop app metaphor to the iPhone.

I've found TweetDeck on the iPhone to be a bit slow and buggy here and there. Sometimes it just hangs on startup, sometimes it just crashes. It will be interesting to see how it works with 3.0 later today! Thanks for the great article.

I have been using Tweetie, but love TweetDesk on the desktop.

Comparing them side-by-side, I do like TweetDeck on the iPhone. My only suggestion would be that I wish it would shift to landscape when you turned the phone - that way, I could see all three (or at least two) columns at the same time. It seems like an obvious oversight from a strong developer.

Haven't tried TweetDeck on iPhone yet, but as far as the desktop, I must agree with Kevin. I think the UI is important and I think Tweetie handles that nicely.

So far tweetdeck dropped the ball on two things. A. no landscape feature. It is 3.0 release soon. B. The fact that cut/copy/paste will interfere with the shake to load new tweets. http://digg.com/d1u25w

I'm a big fan of both Tweetie and Seesmic Desktop. TweetDeck has great functionality, but, in my humble opinion, it doesn't have the same great look and feel the others do. For Twitter clients in particular, readability and a nice UI are so important.
