Mashable - The Social Media Guide: TweetBoard: Add a Twitter-Powered Forum to Your Website

  • Justin Parks · 5 months ago
This looks really interesting actually. requested an invite from them already and looking forward to testing it out! (I hope)
  • JD Hartley · 5 months ago
I would much rather just use forum software--many more features, plus all of your followers don't have to see your activity on these sites. I would unfollow people that did that...
  • @140Ware (Juan) · 5 months ago
Tweeter conversations in general (@replies) do not "pollute" your followers stream, since they are not shown on their timeline (remember the @replies cataclysm?). Consequently, increased conversation in your stream due to Tweetboard's fun and engaging nature, will not pollute your followers stream either.

nice news... but for me it'd be better if it was a real forum like twitter... like a new model of forum... i'm still looking for tht :)
  • Pete · 5 months ago
Check out Lussumo's Vanilla and their new upcoming Vanilla 2. Very much the Twitter of message boards:

omg.. this was exactly wht i was looking for... tks to u ;)

This is a great idea. This is the kind of area that Twitter itself should be looking into --different ways of visualizing the complex discussions that are going on. A more complex platform could also allow them to get some more revenue (i.e. from ads) and improve their profitability. I like it.

    cool
  • Andy Sternberg · 5 months ago
This looks really cool. I just wish there was a way to request an Alpha invite without having to advertise it across Twitter. I prefer to try things out before recommending them, y'know?
  • @140Ware (Juan) · 5 months ago
Andy, feel free to email me your site and twitter username @ juan[at]140ware.com. I'll set you up asap.
  • Andy Sternberg · 5 months ago
done. Thanks, Juan! That's great customer service :-)

  • @140Ware (Juan) · 5 months ago
Integrating with FB stream is under consideration atm: http://feedback.tweetboard.com/pages/21536-gene...
  • jamie1984 · 5 months ago
    'voted' the suggestion
  • iTbay · 5 months ago
:) - such a great tool to integrate with Twitter!
  • Rebecca Hubbard · 5 months ago
I am hoping that Twitter comes up with a way to add a custom twitter just for your own subscribers. Like a membership Twitter app for your own web site members
  • Jake · 5 months ago
Now THIS is something I never thought I'd hear about: a Twitter-powered forum?! ... Amazing idea!
  • Avinash · 5 months ago
another interesting idea put to work. Request a invite but to receive it

Tweetboard http://mashable.com/2009/06/26/tweetboard/?utm_... sounds interesting. Disqus now allows signin with twitter too, nice!
  • Dave Lowe · 5 months ago
Great idea but I worry about the noise created for your followers. Value added doesn't really apply if you're (potentially) cutting off half the post as well.
  • @140Ware (Juan) · 5 months ago
Dave I believe your concern is similar to one expressed above re: @replies. Please check out this post: http://mashable.com/2009/06/26/tweetboard/#comm...
  • Random Surfer · 5 months ago
Seems Juan is not approving any more for alpha testing :( ....I expected to apply it on the new upcoming site www.GoogleWaveCommunity.com/forum
  • @140Ware (Juan) · 5 months ago
Yes we are. The problem is we have topped the number of tweets that can be sent from the @140ware account (per hour), so people are not getting instant acknowledgments.

However, *all* alpha requests are still being approved instantly by our automated system.

After submitting your alpha request, simply wait a couple of minutes and then feel free to proceed with your installation. (Installation instructions here: http://bit.ly/1JtNr)

More info now on our homepage: http://tweetboard.com/alpha/ (You may need to hard-refresh to see the updated announcement)

You can find more information about it in this post made by Andres Barreto at PulsoSocial.com

WOW Tweetboard Alpha is the Top Trending Topic as at 5:51pm eastern on June 27, 2009. The power of this app and @mashable BizSpark program. Not even in 24hrs of release on this blog. EXCELLENT!!!!
  • Loretta · 5 months ago
This is completely brilliant! Two of my favorite things, forums and Twitter all rolled into one. ;) Looking forward to trying it out.
  • Paul Williams · 5 months ago
I requested an invite for tweetboard and I'm looking forward too trying it.
  • Mac · 5 months ago
I would be will to add twitter forum as opposed to the old outdated conventional forums. Twitter is just an application looking for it's place in technology. Its only a matter of time before we put a twitter chip (or whatever its called when its developed) in our heads. Oh wait, I have a call, touch your temple to answer. :)

  • gruvr music map · 5 months ago
I like this idea -- we're currently working on something similar for gruvr, but maybe tweetboard is an easier way to get there. What defines the source of the tweets on a board, though? Must they all originate from the same account, or can it be a feed of tweets matching a certain search keyword?
  • @140Ware (Juan) · 5 months ago
They must originate *from* the "host" account OR be posted to the TB *directly* by the "host", or any other twitter user. Allowing automatic pulling of tweets based on matching keywords or hashtags would have made it yet another aggregator, and there are plenty of those out there already. :)

The idea is to create meaningful conversation, relevant to the host's interests and/or site topic. ...It seems to be working!

I need help.. I submitted the wrong URL and now it's messed up - this thing sucks now. Can the @140ware people help me?

Can some one tell me what the rss feed look like please?
  • Scott Prock · 5 months ago
@140ware is my new best friend!! ... I love the integration of tweetboard, and I think their logo is very clever too.

For those who prefer an old fashion forum ... without tons of traffic and participation forums become static and stale, and for new sites, forums are always a challenge to get going, no one wants to post on a forum with no traffic.

Anyway ... I see tweetboard as the ultimate solution to engaging your readers and encouraging participation.

    BRAVO @140ware

I was accepted into this Alpha and am eager to try it, but I'd like some feedback first.

I've heard mixed things about it so far. Some say it's awesome some say it's not that good and has spyware.

Those who have tried this or know someone who did, thoughts?

Reply to this comment or send me a tweet @BlackBerryRocks.

    Thanks.
  • @140Ware (Juan) · 3 months ago
You can see what people are saying about Tweetboard by conducting a search (via search.twitter.com) with the following query 'tweetboard -requesting'. That will filter out the alpha-invites requests, allowing you to find out more "opinions" on Tweetboard.

    Re: spyware
I've never heard of that before. Do you have a link to the source of this info?
  • coolhandluke2 · 5 months ago
I have been trying to find different marketing tools for my website www.sickbudget.com in order to drive traffic and relay information. With twitter blowing up, I am thinking this could be a huge asset for website owners.
