I think they serve two different purposes. Twitter is great to start the conversation and tumblr is a great place to finish it.

that makes a lot of sense.... but then, why not a complete bypass of twitter when tumbler reaches critical mass? or will twitter jsut add the new features?

FB integration yes... hashtags, no, I don't think so. Someone correct me if I'm wrong....
twitter is connecting so quick and also using very userfriendly ....but tumblr is provably enjoyment and other things too.

There's one huge drawback to this Facebook integration for people who pipe their Twitter feeds into Tumblr (many I'm sure). Because Tumblr only grabs tweet RSS feed every hour or so and imports them all together, this means they'll all be dumped into FB simultaneously as well, thereby spamming your Newsfeed. This wouldn't be a problem if Tumblr was integrated with Twitter in real time instead of current average solution. Only (big) blemish on otherwise welcome move.
