Great overview of the main new functions of FireFox; for developers the HTML5 support is especially interesting. This enables much smoother and more integrated ways of building true multimedia sites. Speed indeed is comparable to Google Chrome; that was the main reason I have been using Chrome the last couple of months more than FireFox.

I just wish it worked like a Mac app.

Firefox on the Mac is to me like Safari on Windows. Sure, the rendering is nice and fast, but the application itself seems to be dragging a few tonnes of dead weight along with it, which more than counterbalances the speed of the engine.

Goodbye sIFR, hello downloadable fonts. mind = blown.

  • Rahul Jadhav · 5 months ago
Thanks for sharing this list. I was wondering about the new features.

Btw I would love to see the Speed Dial in Firefox 3.5 just as Opera has it

"Recently Closed Tabs" are available in 3.0, actually. "Recently Closed Windows" aren't though.

The my location option is better suited for wifi use, for instance it shows my location 40 miles west of where I live. How do you use the "forget this page" option though? I don't see that anywhere

kinda cool...though none of the above is really a killer...anyways biggest question is how soon will the addons work on 3.5 (in 3.0 it took long weeks...:()
  • mikeythefish · 5 months ago
GRR@Firebug.. Works TERRIBLE in 3.5.. I hope they are noticing the flaws and are fixing... until then.. im going back down a version of Firefox.
  • JohnSharp · 5 months ago
That's a pity. Firebug has some other issues as well - like preventing Google Maps and other onload elements from loading when enabled - I really hope those Firebug guys get their act together because it is a cool and valuable tool...

Long live the king Firefox! By the way I've red that MS is punishing Europe for not allowing IE8 Integration to Windows 7 with higher Windows 7 prices and no upgrade versions. I really hope that's only rumors.
  • tobylane · 5 months ago
No, it's something like they would have been, but the ubiqituous sale means its equal. Like DFS, always on sale, the real price is crap. And the real product is crap.
  • Richard Pitts · 5 months ago
Excellent review - time for a an upgrade!!!

    1. I don't believe that chart.
    2. In Opera betas already
    3. Canvas/html5 support is very long, patchy all over ff opera and safari. Not complete anywhere.
    4. Old news. Opera.
    5. COME ON... IE has it.

As you can see, Opera pwns in my view. And the facts.

And thats what I was going to say, the title wil be better if you just put "killer features"... those aren't just Firefox *new* features.

    Hi Josh,
Here's a site built around Firefox 3.5's new geolocation feauture instead of just an extra feature: aliengoggles.com in Alpha today.
  • Jmartens · 5 months ago
Can you give us some more details on the chart in point 1? What exactly does it measure?

I have installed Firefox 3.5 today on both my Desktop and Laptop and love it. I have noticed significantly better performance. Firefox 3.5 is yet another nail in the IE coffin, I hope.

Love Firefox - still eats up resources like crazy with Google docs. But, no Chrome for the Mac yet so Firefox is my browser of choice despite occasional resource devouring.
  • tekunik · 5 months ago
I have already downloaded .Is it playing catch-up with Chrome ? AT-least on the UI front ?

Cool features.. Private browsing seems more applicable for shared computers.. TraceMonkey? Is this like a younger brother of GreaseMonkey? Haha, can't wait to see what TraceMonkey can do.

You've missed one killer feature: source code navigation. View the source of any site with Firefox 3.5 and you can now click to other pages/css/js etc from within the source window.

    Absolutely killer.

Anyone with an iPhone knows that location aware browsing is a killer feature. Nice round up, though. Check out other cool lists at my site, www.mightylists.blogspot.com

Well, I've tested and run the 3.5 beta before. It works great. I guess it's time for an update. :)

Love the new "3. Support for HTML 5 and Downloadable Fonts"
But then again with new features like that as we all know, some people tend to exploit it.
I just hope it's security safe. I've always been thinking of why not use our own custom fonts on a web page. We've all been using the "web-safe" fonts. Aaaand it's about time. Also the new multimedia is something interesting to look up to.

Not sure if anyone has said this yet, and I'm too lazy to go through the comments to find out, but Firefox has allowed you to open up closed recent tabs in 3.1. The menu is there under History. Just passing through.

    Firefox is the greatest

Another striking feature of Firefox 3.5 are its add-ons that can be easily installed in the browser. However not all of them are compatible. Some of them that do work are Screengrab, Billeo, Foxytunes, Twitterfox and Adblock plus. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/...
