  • Charlie · 8 months ago
Since I run a link blog, I really appreciate it when people give credit to the site they found an interesting link on
  • GoEverywhere Team · 8 months ago
I think it's important for anyone (blogger, writer, freelance writer) to link back to their sources if they have any! It lends credibility to their article/post and also provides readers a way to verify information.
  • Shankho Mukherjee · 8 months ago
In most cases I use the Facebook Sharing button - one click and it appears in my posted links, which also works great as a collection library.
  • awaldstein · 8 months ago

  • Barry Wheeler · 8 months ago
Great list. Many options for sharing are available throughout the social networking / media sites. Thanks for sharing (my original comment received an error when I posted).
  • Facebook User · 8 months ago
    I love Feedly.

It is a great tool that gives you a more user-friendly interface with Google Reader, plus the Feedly "mini" allows you to easily share any blog post, article or whatever on Twitter, FeedFriend, FaceBook, etc. in one integrated package.
  • Carla Arena · 8 months ago
I use Diigo (http://diigo.com ) to bookmark my favorite blog posts and resources. It duplicates them to my delicious account and when I save it, I also have the option to add a tweet about the link. Very straightforward as I use Diigo Bookmarklet.
  • MOECASH · 8 months ago

    A very interesting article
  • jamesspratt · 8 months ago
Sorry for this negativity: but this is a really silly post, mostly all you're doing is listing the majority of social media/ aggregating sites. Bad effort.
  • arif · 8 months ago
    Q. How do you share?

    A. http://amplify.com
  • Rainer Zeimentz · 8 months ago
Real good list, thank you for sharing. Facebook ist my favorite. at the moment.
  • Andy Shackcloth · 8 months ago
Thanks for the list and your links and those from other contributers.
Links for multiple site submission being the most appreciated, since I don't want to spend ages sharing each info gem.
Being 'new' lists like these are very helpfull.
  • Doug Caldwell · 8 months ago
All very good suggestions which I have used. Also consider TweetThisText to cite blogs, websites. Highlight some intriguing text of the article, click the TweetThisText on toolbar [very easy to install] and off goes the tweet/citation. With url link back to original article for the follower when then get it. I will send one out, check @Doug_Caldwell

    I love it......thank you. Kevin

I like to print them, fold them and post them in a chain mail format. Seriously... we have an internal wiki for sharing relevant digital info and posts (such as this one). It sits on Sharepoint within our intranet and can be accessed and edited by anyone in the organisation.
  • adamhirsch · 8 months ago
Nice. I didn't even realize ShareThis updated across the board their look and feel. I like it!
  • Ben Parr · 8 months ago
Yeah, I got half a dozen emails about it from them, since I have a few website that use it. It is nice.
  • Jared O'Toole · 8 months ago
Twitter is by far my favorite way to share a post. Digg would be effective but it takes work to gain any respect to get your stuff recognized.

Facebook is also great as long as you have a solid following.
  • Don Mosites · 8 months ago
Nice list, but I suspect these options will be consolidated. Share with style at http://www.streamy.com/ :)
  • Finola Prescott · 8 months ago
    Got a chuckle out of

    20. Talking to Friends: If you don’t have a computer handy...

I know you do say you can send the link later, but it just wasn't what I expected to see on the list at Mashable; good ol' talking face to face :) (:

    Good list, all 1-20! thanks
  • Nick · 8 months ago
We're seeing almost 20% of our new blog's traffic coming from Twitter
  • Barbara Duke · 8 months ago
  • jangeronimo · 8 months ago
If I'm pressed for time I share it on Twitter. Otherwise, I'd thumb up a good blog post in StumbleUpon. When the post is excellent I can be so inspired I can write a short review of it. For more personal bookmarks I'm using Delicious. If I really want to help the author, I'd use Digg. But for the most part I find myself favoring Twitter.
  • krishnamoorthy · 8 months ago
A great list. I already use some of them. This is a comprehensive list.
  • Melissa · 8 months ago
Great blog and great post! I am getting a lot out of it! I'll be following! ;)
  • Aviv Shahar · 8 months ago
Great list. Thank you. The most important element is to contribute true value. To add meaning. To create significance.

    Continued this thought on twitter:

Imagine all of us here asking – do I add value? do I create meaning? do I generate significance? before the send / post / update click.

They're still fairly new, but how could Socialbrowse not make the list?
  • Natalie · 8 months ago
I completely agree. Socialbrowse most definitely should've made this list! Easy, and there's a great community, too!
  • Srinivas · 8 months ago
I think it's very important for anyone (blogger, writer, freelance writer) to link back to their sources. I use Digg, facebook, linkedin and twitter to bookmark my favorite blog posts and resources.
  • Valer · 8 months ago
    Nice list.
You might want to consider BlogUpp.com, meant to share blog posts automatically, without even the need to register. Note though that added blogs are reviewed individually for approval, so that only great content gets in.
  • Edward · 8 months ago
I use this handy Firefox extension/app called Feedly. The interface is very simple & has a smaller 'mini' version with friendfeed, twitter, tumblr, email, etc. that pops up on each page you open. You can not only see the conversations around the page/post involved, but you can instantly publish/share your information as well.
  • nietha · 8 months ago

  • Social Bookmarking · 8 months ago

  • Mike Lazarus · 8 months ago
If using Twitter - Twitterfeed (http://twitterfeed.com/) will tweet your blog posts automatically

If using Facebook - Networked Blogs (http://apps.facebook.com/blognetworks/index.php) will do it. Mine is at http://apps.facebook.com/blognetworks/blog/life...

Another you left out is Technorati (eg http://technorati.com/blogs/blog.glcomputing.co...) - you can auto ping it to pick up updates

PS: I saw this post via Twitter
  • AdamG511 · 8 months ago
I like posterous because it sends things everywhere, and am warming to using the sharing features in feedly.(i already love the feedly reader)

    20. Talking to a friend. I like it! Been returning to that approach these days.... kind of like, going outside.
  • Ian McKendrick · 8 months ago
Another great way to share a blog post is through QR codes. I'm currently looking at iCandy for setting these up: http://icandy.ricohinnovations.com/rocket2/
You can print these out on cards and hand them out at network meetings. By waving them in front of your webcam, or your mobile phone you are immediately taken to the URL - which could be the blog post you're trying to promote. I'll shortly be posting an article on my own blog at http://ianmckendrick.com to show how to take advantage of this emerging technology as a fun and engaging way to promote your blog.

    Nice list Ben.

There is also BigTweet http://bigtweet.com/ which is a great way to surf the Web and post to Twitter. BigTweet installs as a bookmarklet on all the major browsers and lets you capture highlighted text, link and title for easy posting. There is also built-in shortening using Bit.ly and support for special unicode characters.

  • GrowMap · 8 months ago
Great post and one I sincerely hope more people will take to heart because it benefits everyone involved: those who create quality content, those they interact with on Social Networking sites, and their own blogs.

Check out the post I did recently on how commenting and sharing can increase traffic to your own site exponentially: in my case 54.87% the day I wrote that post which increased to 76.63%. We also received Tweets indicating one blogger doubled his one day traffic when he tried our suggested strategy.

The more people are willing to recommend their favorite blogs, products, and services the more the world benefits - especially if those they recommend are local or smaller online businesses. Vote with your time and money and create a better world!
  • Jeremiah Cohick · 8 months ago
Facebook easily sends more traffic than any other source to my clients' sites. Links on Twitter get lost. It's much easier to spot links shared on Facebook.
  • Milind Jadhav · 8 months ago
Great post. My only worry is that Social Media is getting more and more fragmented.. I wonder if there is any information on which are the Top 5 Social Media networks and what proportion of total Social Media users they have..
  • Emily · 8 months ago
Good summary. I think it's funny that 'Talking to Friends' is last...oh how far we've come ;)
  • Jacob Wake Up! · 8 months ago
I prefer to funnel everything through google reader. I either click share when reading my subscriptions or click on "note in reader" in my bookmarks bar. Then my shared reading feed is sent to twitterfeed and to facebook which imports feeds pretty nicely. I also have a little widget on the side of my own blog that lists what I'm reading.

now if I could only keep up with everything in my newsreader...
  • andrewwiddis · 8 months ago
Twitter!. It's fast, All your followers see it straight away in an easy/quick read/link and requires little effort by me, as no need to worry about format.
  • mildfuzz · 8 months ago
    great list

One method I am soon to be adopting is get your blog printed, if you know of a local free magazine, they might be looking for cheap content creators, you can gain readership (and value for advertisers) by appearing in the mag. You also open the doors to the mag's sponsors asking for a piece of your web pie.

    follow me @mildfuzz
  • rayjohnson12 · 8 months ago
Awesome!!!! Earlier I had only a few to my list. Now with the help of Ben, I can share and connect with so many users out there. Thanks to the developers who make it and bloggers like Ben who introduce it to us.
  • Darlene MacAuley · 8 months ago
My own blog posts are shared easily automatically through Aweber's service to Twitter and a blog feed, and they're also set up to post as notes in my Facebook page and on my Facebook blog page.

As a researcher I find Twine is really good for archiving articles and sharing. It's just launched a Tweet what you Twine as well, so anything you twine can be tweeted at the same time. Great time saving application.
  • Jim · 8 months ago
I add the Zemanta Reblog button to my blog posts to encourage others to Reblog it. It's like asking peeps to ReTweet in Twitter, but on blogs.
  • froggertv · 8 months ago
For me stumble, reddit and digg are the great place to share your story/blog post. I never got success from myspace or facebook.
  • christian · 8 months ago
Great article. Using many of the sharing-ways, But just picked up a few I don't use. I have found twitter as the best. Doubled my posting traffic after my first 2 weeks twitting.

  • Jared O'Toole · 8 months ago
Great tips. Its hard to stay on top of everything. I have a list that i go through every time I make a blogpost so I don't forget to distribute it places. But you do have to pick your places. It can be a waste of time to share it somewhere that no one listens to what your saying. Focus on making certain outlets stronger so when you do share it there more people will respond to it.
  • ericjogja · 8 months ago
    thanks for your information
    I think
I also need to learn this
  • Rey Leuterio · 8 months ago
Great article -- I learned some things I didn't know about.

    Here's how I share links:

I linked up Facebook and Twitter and Google Reader and Blogger via Friendfeed ... all I do is post on one and it gets mirrored.

If it's a status message on FB, it gets sent out on Twitter as well. If I tweet it, it ends up as a FB status message as well.

If it's a shared article on Google Reader, it gets sent out on FB and Twitter.

I also linked my Blogger account to Multiply... so if it's out on Blogger, it creates an identical post on Multiply as well. It also ends up as an automatic posting on FB and Twitter.

The potentials of Twitter really become apparent when a good blog post is tweeted. When I post a link to my blog, my 350 followers see it, and if 2 or 3 of them retweet it, my writing suddenly has an audience of more than 1000 sets of eyes. This usually happens within the first 20 minutes of tweeting! In a sens,e Twitter gives every posting an opportunity to become viral.
  • laura sweet · 7 months ago
When someone comes up with an app that will automatically send a completed and newly published post to all of those with one action, let me know. I can't wait for that. It'd save me hours.
  • Beryl Loeb · 7 months ago
Very helpful info not just for passing along blogs worth sharing, but also for building readership of newly created blogs. It can get lonely when you first start blogging. Thanks from this new blogger: Loeb's Lobs: http://berylloeb.wordpress.com.

I utterly adore when I come across an article that is soooo informative. Bless you. I hadn't even known the existance of some of the social media sites you mention. Will be paying them a visit. Cannot thank you enough.
  • bart · 7 months ago
Great post, what's the html required for a "share this post" bar below a blogpost like mashable has?
  • Joy Devlin · 7 months ago
I'm just about to start blogging for the first time and am just finding my way around Twitter. I want to share a story that I believe will change people's perceptions about what is possible for their own self development, health and wellbeing. Ambitious!! I'm in the middle of writing a lot of material and re-developing my website. A big project in itself. However, I've now realised that I must use Social Media to share this story.

Thanks for this article - it is easy to follow and gives a great overview for a beginner like me. I was a bit lost in all the online possibilities before!
