Great list and great job on putting that puppy together...keep them coming.

I would also add Reaper, a great offline software. It costs 40$ for personal use.

Plus, I double-recommend Pluggd.com, especially their Twitter service which automatically updates my Twitter everytime I listen to a show, in a neat "Now Playing" style. Good Job.

Working on a network of very narrowly focused podcast portals called PodcastBuffet. Examples include IndiaPodcasts.com, OperaPodcasts.com, TechNewsPodcasts.com, etc. We're slowly building out each (of about 400) sites.

Nothing fancy, just easy to find, remember and navigate podcast search tools.

oops, I obviously have not mastered my href code. The entire second sentence above links to the openculture web site! There is no preview...just a noob here...

Why give a highlight to Yahoo Podcasts? They haven't updated the feeds on their site in almost three months.

www.blogtalkradio for live podcasts also :0)

    Great blog!

This is a great list. I'm definitely going to go through a few of these resources and see what else I can learn.

One thing I might add for newbies, though, is a podcast on podcasting - a sort sort of meta-podcast, if you will. It was featured on Feedburner's podcast, and a lot of people seem to have really liked it.

It's a little hard to describe, but it covers everything from free software tools to tips to make your mic sound better to publicity ideas - all over a bunch of hip-hop (and other) beats.

Here's the link: The Blueprint - How To Start Your Very Own Podcast. Geared towards music podcasters (not enough resources for us out there!) but probably useful for anyone looking to get started.
  • Matthew Wayne Selznick · 2 years ago
Two podcasts on podcasting that should be included are Podcast 411 (http://www.podcast411.com/) and Podholes (http://www.podholes.com/.)

Also -- though not a forum, the Yahoo! Podcasting Group is the oldest and most active mailing list discussion group on podcasting: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/podcasters/

I agree with you 100% Podcasting still has a huge potential ..

Great list - thanks for the compilation.
  • swape · 2 years ago
If you want to podcast and have your own server then you should check my podcasting php-script.

    http://swape.net/d/node/15

all you have to do is changing some lines in config file and add your files (video,audio,...)in the sub-dir.. and the script will take care of the rest.
  • Chris · 2 years ago
Another great list, helping you stand out from the rest. Please keep these coming.

Thanks for including Evoca in the "free Podcasting" list! We also can be listed in "premium" category: Evoca offers a Pro membership (lots more minutes), virtual voice mail, to enable other people to phone their comments right into your Evoca account. And there's more: as a Skype partner we just launched the Evoca Skype Call Recorder that allows you to Podcast right from within the Skype client. See www.evoca.com/skype.

Phenomenal list, and a tremendous resource! Very well done.

    Thanks for including Waxxi!
  • Donald Murphy · 2 years ago
Podcast Ready is also a podcast directory. However, we also have an integrated podcatching client available for Windows, Mac and Linux. Our myPodder client is free and runs completely from your Ipod or other MP3 player (as long as the player is available as a removable storage device).

We offer recommendations based upon similarities in your subscriptions with other users and include the ability for "friends" to recommend podcasts to you or send you specific episodes you might find interesting.

So please include RawVoice in your Podcast Advertising Section.

You have some of our descriptions wrong but thanks for including us in the initial list.

and just to add to the discussion of tools available - here's an interesting software product that somebody mentioned in the comments on my previous post about the Podcast Blueprint: a program called ubercaster.

I've never used it, but it looks fairly slick and intuitive. Anybody out there used it?
  • miakoda · 2 years ago
I am jumping in on your comment as I can not open a new post.

This will be a site I may need to read later when we start "Pod casts"

A free offline tool that comes in handy for interviews that may have different people speaking at different levels is The Levelator from GigaVox Media. There are versions for Windows (including Vista), OSX and Linux. From their website:

"So what is The Levelator? It's software that adjusts the audio levels within your podcast or other audio file for variations from one speaker to the next, for example. It's not a compressor, normalizer or limiter although it contains all three. It's much more than those tools, and it's much simpler to use. The UI is dirt-simple: Drag-and-drop any WAV or AIFF file onto The Leveler's application window, and a few moments later you'll find a new version which just sounds better."

It's indispensable and it's free. Since I found it I've used it on every episode of my show, The Real Deadwood Podcast.

I think I would have to agree w. you here ("Podcasting may not have lived up to the early hype"), podcasting is an under-utilized tool for success! Let's get out there and create some quality entertainment people, and benefit from it in the process! ;). Thanks a lot for posting this, and the sites you have included here as a reference look really nice too, will def. check them out when I get a chance! (Thinking of making a podcast at some point for my Japanese pop music/animation/games site, Jpopexpress.com!). Keep the great stuff comin' guys, appreciate!

Great list of Podcasting Resources. There are also quite a lot of articles related to podcasting spread all over the internet. Some can be found on our Company Website : http://www.devia.be

I recently started a series of articles on podcasting. These articles should guide you through the whole process, starting from the idea to the concept, the planning, production, publishing & hosting, promotion, ...

Currently the articles covered the preparation and planning of a Podcast.

    Regards,

    Stefaan

An Editorial Question for the Webmaster of Mashable.com:

    Dear Editor,

I have an editorial question about your website, Mashable.com.

On this page, http://mashable.com/2007/07/04/podcasting-toolb... see that you list some excellent online media resources in an article from July of 2007. Although it’s an older article, I think it’s a very valuable resource. We’d be honored if you would include Vocalo.org in your list of podcaster’s resources here. Our contributors are largely tech-savvy people who are becoming familiar with radio, and have something to express to the Illinois/Indiana public on the air waves.

Our organization (both the website and our radio programming) provides opportunities for the Chicago/Indiana public to express itself through radio, podcasts, other audio media, and an active blog. We work with budding radio geeks-- comedians, story tellers, artists, critics and commentators-- to build one coherent production around certain themes, from a variety of media, including video, recorded telephone calls, audio productions, music, and interviews. This raw footage is put together into radio shows that broadcast 24-7 to the public on 89.5 FM in Chicago and Indiana. Please take a look at our site!

One writer for Chicago's Daily Herald has stated that contributers to Vocalo "could be the leaders of local radio's evolution and perhaps a facelift for the next generation of public radio listeners". We strive to bring public radio to segments of the population that have not engaged with it much in the past.

Would you be willing to take a look at http://www.vocalo.org and include a link to it on the above webpage as you feel is merited?

If you have questions, please email me. Thank you for your consideration. This is not spam. I am a real person, and I look forward to hearing back from you!

    Sophie
