Here's my personal list of top travel websites:

(Find train times between stations anywhere in Europe)

(The best price comparison site I've found for flights and hotels. It also does holidays, car hire and more, but I've never used those sections)

(Cheap accommodation across the globe, not just hostels, but budget hotels, guest houses, apartments and campsites too)
  • michael briscoe · 1 year ago
hello Luke...i found a cool travl site last year, Iguana Go Travel, and booked a flight last month.I flew from Orlando to Indianapolis IN. non stop round trip ticket on Northwest for $167.00. Everything went smooth and cheap. check them out. www.IguanaGoTravel.com

    have a great day
  • Zia · 2 years ago
That's a great list! Many thanks for this.

Luke, I agree with you, http://www.travelsupermarket.com is simply superb.

    http://www.laterooms.com is great too.
  • bringsome.com · 2 years ago
Great list indeed except maybe for one of the latest launches missing being http://www.bringsome.com.

Not to plug it too much but I thought it'd deserve to be here..

bringsome.com is a free service that brings together travelers and people in need for foreign and home-country goods to have them arrange personal delivery.

'Arrange a ride' for your favorite goodies from all over the world.

I'd love to hear peoples feedback.
  • Matt Hamilton · 2 years ago
wow, no TripAdvisor.com? That's the first place I go to get reviews on hotels and ideas for things to do.
I used Trip Advisor and Yahoo's Travel Planner for our West coast road trip this summer and had a blast!
  • Julie · 2 years ago
I love Trip Advisor too. Can't believe it was left off the list.
  • Flex RIA · 2 years ago
with that many web 2.0 type of travel businesses, are they making travel easier? or, this many choices will make it hard to make a good(wish it's a good) decision. But regardless, it's nice to have them all in one place. Just need find time identify couple of useful ones.
  • FlightStats · 2 years ago
I think you are missing FlightStats.com on this list, they actually supply many of these sites with their flight tracking information.

They have an extensive database tracking flights that goes back at least 4 years. Their historical data is totally invaluable, it saved me from taking a flight that had like a 40% on time arrival percentage. They also have a Mobile site so you can get flight information on the go.

Without trying to blow my own trumpet too much, how about Travellerspoint.com?

A travel community of over 100,000 members, with a blogging platform, wiki travel guide, photo gallery, accommodation bookings, etc.
  • Mala · 2 years ago
Man, what a resource is this for travelers, travel bloggers and travel guide publishers.
  • Pip Bennett · 2 years ago

  • Benjamin Volker · 2 years ago
You missed www.simpatigo.com - custom walking and driving tour guides throughout the U.S. and Lonely Planet's Thorntree - a grat bulletin board for adventurous travelers.
  • luca Nicoli · 2 years ago
    check also travelleers.com out.
It's still a tiny beta site but I like the attitue.
It gives you video pictures and tips for your travels
  • Joseph · 2 years ago
There's also http://extravigator.com for luxury travel.
  • Adrian · 2 years ago
A good new site is www.whl.travel, basically a travel site with a social conscience, plus they're run by local people in every destination they operate.
  • Jodi · 1 year ago
We're the local operator in Cape Town and Cape Winelands, South Africa - www.cape-town-hotels.travel and www.cape-winelands-hotels.travel. Check us out! We love our destination and have checked out all of the hotels on our site and so are confidenct in the service providers we're representing...

  • David · 2 years ago
    I love Trip Advisor too
  • Road Trip Planner · 2 years ago
Well, most of you already mentioned Trip Advisor which is a big hole in the above list. I would like to add two more:

Seat Guru - helps you pick the best seats on any type of plane you're about to fly on.

Tripwiser.com - a social trip planning service which lets you plan your road trip using the collective wisdom of other travelers. Tripwiser also integrates into Facebook very nicely (check their Going Places application).

  • jenny neville · 1 year ago
Anyone looking to visit the Lake District should check out Crow How Country House. It's one of the nicest Ambleside hotels and it sits in a 2000 acre Lakeland farm.

I think the best mile/point tracker is USA Today Mile Tracker. It tracks 128 differnt programs, multiple accounts, history and allows you to drill down into a detailed view on each tracked account.

The current version is a downloadable program but the good news is they are only 2 weeks away from launching a new web based product that will allow for freedom of use from any where or any computing device.
  • Richard · 1 year ago
How about Africa and Safaris? I like http://www.africaguide.com and http://www.best-kenya-safaris.com
  • kevin · 1 year ago
I used to use kayak but recently I found Travelfusion.com a better choice, many routes and hotels are cheaper than what Kayak found. I love its Door-to-Door Estimation function in search result detailed page, which automatically calculate the extra time and money I will spend on the planning trip(I mean except the ticket and hotel): Check-in/out time in airport, duration & money in Transiting from airport to city/city to airport. Really helpful when traveling a place where I haven't visited before.

I have always been a TripAdvisor and Expedia fan. Also, VibeAgent is an excellent way to find and book hotels.
  • Dan · 1 year ago
You forgot www.triptouch.com- a useful travel homepage.

Also Tripup no longer exists :-(
  • Greg H. · 1 year ago
2 that got left of this list (for hotels) :

    www.vibeagent.com (searches 30+ hotel websites)

www.skoosh.com (has had really good rates on boutiqu-y hotels)
  • darwin · 1 year ago
Good list. I want to nominate tripntale.com as a travel social networking site
  • Saurabh · 1 year ago
I think that this page does give a comprehensive list of all websites. There could be sections for sepciality websites. For example, there is a large gay travel community and one could look at websites like Gaypedia or at Orbitz which cater specifically to the Gay community. Similarly, there are websites catering to students like Studyplaces which cater to the student community.

Hello, I wanted to introduce my "creation". The site www.my365map.it a virtual tour guide, combining the power of maps (google api map) with the wealth of textual and photographic content on tourist attractions and interesting places in Italy, dedicated to those who want to travel, to tourists and those who simply want to know and discover our beautiful country!
With this instrument, the tourists on holiday can see immediately on the map the monument which he tried, the beach so much dreamed, the stadium of the football favorite team.
The portal has been structured on some key categories such as churches and natural beauties, monuments and archaeological sites, museums and culture, music and entertainment, sports and leisure, but the project is evolving and has a strong ambition to grow.
Soon add the ability to insert ads on the map for hotels, restaurants, real estate and more.
You can register and contribute to the growth of the portal can publish content in complete autonomy by placing a marker on the google map drag and drop.
Neryo software as well as having implemented the entire software development has taken over along with his team graphics / designer to conduct the study and design of the logo and design layout of the site.
