Mashable - The Social Media Guide: 2007/01/28/ted-stevens-ban-myspace/

A little scary and more or less shocking. Oh well... I think I'm getting used to stupidity, maybe I'm becoming stupid myself. I hope not.

When will senators understand that they have no clue what a computer really is and how it works? The internet is not controlled by America, and America needs to stop trying to take control. That will ONLY result in other countries dropping their internet communications. I live in America, and believe that ISPs should have the right to withhold copyright laws by disallowing one to download data that is not being transferred legally. It's also not too far fetched of an idea to prosecute those who are found using AMERICA's ISPs to distribute said content. But that's only if you can devise a foolproof way to detect such transfers. Any new technology for that purpose will quickly become obsolete. It's all about being ahead of the game.

And we expect anything else from this man?

Ted Stevens is a joke and thankfully a Republican in a Democrats Congress. I can't wait to see this get killed (again).

I'm in my 3rd hour class right now in high school. I tried to sign on to digg.com and for the first time ever. Its blocked. And when I use a proxy to sign on. This is the story on the front page.

This is a joke. Myspace deletes accounts without warning when it finds inappropiate material. Who wants a myspace account when after months of making friends, their account gets deleted. They make their own rules. They needs guidlines, not the people. They have too much power.

Y'know, one way to get any politician's attention is to write letters to them and have many, many people write letters to them. Maybe we need to start writing and tell him that his measures DON'T protect children.

Scary scary...So I am not a parent yet. And it seems like it is hard enough to 'control' what your kids do without the internet - where they have free reign to a ton of information. Like everything else technology has been a blessing and I guess some would say a bit of a curse. But censoring almost every site that one could sign up on or is interactive, is putting kids, more precisely American kids at a huge disadvantage. How can someone who has uttered such ridiculous things be taken seriously anyways? Maybe someone with more of an idea of exactly what is going on with kids and the internet can step in an bring up some kind of other proposal. But this should bomb. Hard.

Shame on Ted Stevens, but also shame on those who elect these idiots. His attitude is a reflection of those who elected him. Scary!

This guy sucks at the Internet.

Look at you guys, as soon as someone tries to tamper with the web, they have to be wrong, full access for all right? Who wants their kid looking at myspace during school? Or for that matter Wikipedia? A site that is user controlled and can be manipulated to post wrongful facts. Kids need to learn that sites like digg.com, myspace, wikipedia and a slew of other sites are fantastic for recreation and quick answers, but they are in no way a resource for writing an essay or other school work. Kids can still use these sites outside of school so stop freaking out. And I'm sure no one here knows Stevens reputation past his idiotic tubes statement, which yes was dumb, but the man has been an amazing senator that has done more for this country than I'm sure any of you realize. Read the bill, then make your judgement. This is coming from a die hard Democrat by the way.

    Hey Ted,
When you get through with this worthless piece of legislature why don't you introduce a bill to mandate good parenting. Silly man, you can't override the 1st amendment and you can't legislate good parenting. What color is the sky in your world?
