    Pete - Something that came to mind just now... I wonder if there are any parallels to "feed the ebay beast" that could be looked at. It is a matured platform that has allowed for flash widgets, javascript doohickeys, etc for ages. Have there been any big winners?

    Yep, there's a huge economy around eBay - probably much bigger (and definitely more profitable) than the one that's building on top of MySpace. Widgets haven't been a huge hit, though - auction tools, automated bidding etc seem to be more popular (eg. Andale).

    A few of the widget startups began by targeting eBay (Slide, for instance), but quickly moved over to MySpace when they realized the demand was higher.

    This is pretty cool, there seems to be a lot of sites providing great flash content for internet users. FlashWidgetz.com is a new site with a pretty cool iPhone looking mp3 flash player widget and plans on a new release every month.
