I really like Utterz. Iuse the voice Utterz all the time. I've never been able to get the video to work properly though, which is a bummer (and which I'm sure has more to do with my set up than Utterz). Interesingly, because of the multiple types of content and interaction I don't even think of it as competing with 12seconds or 15seconds - it beats them both hands down. And it does so much more than both Qik and Seesmic I don't think of it as competing with them either. I briefly considered mentioning it, but decided it didn't quite fit the article. I am a big fan, though.

To be honest, this isn't going to take off unless it's absorbed and integrated into a much larger application.

Twitter is niche to begin with - it only has such a large userbase for two reasons:

1) it's text medium
2) it's dead simple

Adding video adds another layer of complexity, and unfortunately while all keyboards are created alike, not all video cameras are. The quality is more often than not pretty shocking, and people don't want to have to look their best all the time just to post a comment... So, invariably, you end up with the most extrovert people who always look beautiful - and the rest of us. If the rest of us want to post a reply to someone in a video, they want it to be seen by just the intended recipient - these services (from what I can tell) don't offer that kind of granularity or any other security or privacy features to satisfy this most basic of criteria.

Really, there's nothing that can't be said with text which requires a video post. Sorry for sounding so cynical, but super-short video clip services that just piggyback on text communication services? That's not a real innovation. Some 'innovations' from the social web are really something great, others aren't quite as worth all the hullabaloo - and these supershort video services don't have any kind of killer application or, really, any real use at the moment.

Someone nudge me when the videos come direct to your handset.

Hi, I'm one of the founders of 12seconds. Just wanted to clarify that we do indeed make sharing with Twitter very easy and totally automatic. In fact, it's part of the sign up process and editable in the settings. It's very exciting to see other companies join the microvlogging space. In addition to posting to Twitter, 12seconds has an awesome community of 12ers who add amazing content to the site. People can follow each other, comment on videos, get awards, embed both videos and widgets and participate in the Daily Challenge (which is a lot of fun). We have a great API that developers have already started to utilize (TweetDeck, Blippr, Phreadz). While we're still in private alpha, I'd like to invite any readers (or authors) to try it out - email mashable@12seconds.tv and we'll get you set up with an invite. :)

12seconds owns this category. In addition to having Twitter integration, they also have an API so any third party can mash-up with 12seconds' micro video blogging. 12seconds has the shizzle and it's a shame that Viddler's marketing group was so uninspired that they had to rip off the name of their competitor. What's next? YouTube launches 18seconds? Bah. Most people can't do more than twelve seconds of engaging video anyways.

I was reading this wondering when 12seconds stopped posting to Twitter. I could swear it did, but it looks like that has been covered.

12seconds is actually where I turn when Seesmic's interface gets angry and smashes my browser. I'll have to look into this Viddler thing, but it seems like another case of me too. I like Viddler for full-length stuff, though.

Very true 12seconds.tv has been doing this for awhile now.

Plus 12seconds.tv has an instant gratification that 15s.viddler.com still has to work on.

I like 15s.viddler.com extra 3 seconds but it is a like clunky to post. I am sure it will get better.

12seconds.tv still has my vote for now.
