At one time my blog was praised with an authority in the 100s then inexplicably dropped and is often rated either a 0, a 9, or a 1. Big negative and it negs me out. If you want me to salivate about technorati then you need to treat me like Pavlov's Dog. I have a well respected social media blog in the marketing, advertising and branding businesses. I am linked by many of the most well known names in the business. But in the last 3 years have gotten very little love or satisfaction from technorato so wonder why I persist.

Re: HOW TO: Get the Most Out of Technorati

nice info on technorati.. was looking for this kind of info from long time

Re: HOW TO: Get the Most Out of Technorati

Twitter is good, but kind of not serious.
How a serious businessman will allow to get distracted every few hours and post a short message on what he is doing right now?
This will simply never happen!

Technorati is waaay better to keep informed on more serious topics and posts (not limited to the 140 chars).
Google Blog Search is also nice, but slow.
Services like Technoratti and Feed Burner(Now Google's) are here to stay and will only get better.

So, get used to it!

Re: HOW TO: Get the Most Out of Technorati

Thanks for the advice, just added my blog to technorati!!

Re: HOW TO: Get the Most Out of Technorati

I recently went back to Technorati after being away from it for a number of years. I used to use Google News as my homepage but Technorati gives a better snapshot into what's current in both MSM and the Blogsphere. If I want to find what's new about the wii for example, I'll just hit their tag pages (new and amazing). Example here: http://technorati.com/tag/wii. Where else are you going to get this data and have it be soo current? Techmeme can't and Google Search definitely can't.

What's really funny to me is people are ALWAYS hating on Technorati, but the people that do, don't seem to know specifically WHY they hate it. It's more or less the typical "it sucks, I don't get it" crowd. Which is fine in my mind. Lot's of people didn't understand blogs back in 2000.

For their instability - it's about 10,000 times better than it used to be.

Oh, @Victoria - agreed 100%.

Re: HOW TO: Get the Most Out of Technorati

Technorati is dysfunctional. It's chronically unstable, it takes days and in some instances weeks to index posts, it doesn't count inbound links from blogs and sites that don't use technorati, and the range of content that it gives prominence to is extremely narrow. I use it because I figure it's better to be indexed than not, but I don't rely on it.

Re: HOW TO: Get the Most Out of Technorati

Everything about drechnorati irritates for the self serving inbred nature. Why don't they just declare themselves the centre of the universe, oh, they already did, but it's a pretty frigging small universe, topically, geographically and about any other way you can think of, there's no culture or depth or care here or even any personality aside from the know it all with accompanying posed shots. It's a shoddy gimmick for the self important plastic munchers to link to each other and most importantly themselves. Jump on some hype and oh, why don't you look at my blog entry on the topic. I'd love to see a graph of this activity. "Build profile" so google will rank you higher!!!!!!!!!! Or omg we've invented our own google+++!!!!!! gag. We know what the word of the first part of this decade is. "Me." Now what's next that's actually worthwhile. Sites like Facebook has a lot more depth than any of these efforts, for people who actually take chances and invest part of their personality and network, and you don't know how much that hurts me to write.

Re: HOW TO: Get the Most Out of Technorati

Technorati is simply puzzling. I'm unsure what the focus is supposed to be, or the direction of the product. A few years ago, I was quite optimistic. Wait and see from me.

Re: HOW TO: Get the Most Out of Technorati

I have been using Technorati for the last 3 years for my blog, and I have figured that the best placement of Technorati widget of "Add to My Favorite" does wonders to increase the rank.

Re: HOW TO: Get the Most Out of Technorati

I've 'claimed' my blog at Tecnorati and setup my profile...and that's it: I wouldn't know what it cn do more for me.

And I'm not convinced it can do more for me (as a humble blogger) after having read this article...

Re: HOW TO: Get the Most Out of Technorati

I agree, Jason, Technorati is becoming to be an irritating page since a few weeks ago.

Re: HOW TO: Get the Most Out of Technorati

I now use twitter search before I use technorati search. Although in some specific cases I think Technorati is very useful such as if you want to find a list of top blogs in certain niche catogories and it is definently more blog search friendly then google's blog search. I think twitter search rocks if you want to actually find legit contacts and connect with people in your field.

Steve
grindvision.com
