    Bad move, yahoo...

I realize Bebo has the userbase, but VIRB is a much MUCH better site, all around. IMO, if VIRB had the exposure from Yahoo, it would slaughter myspace in no time at all.

Virb may be a hit with web designers and the indie crowd, but at last count its user base was 0.0000001% the size of Bebo's.

Users are *all* that matters in these buys.

It's valuable, but Bebo is no way a good consolation for buying Facebook. Not big in the USA.

If you come late to the game, you got to overpay for the second best.
Seems to be a big week for acquisitions and rumors.

    correction: you've got
  • Rajesh · 2 years ago
Yahoo doesn't have many choices left.

Yahoo! is apparently buying everything! But i agree its shouldn't always be about the number of people on a network but more about who, how and where. Quality users build true social communities that are addictive.

    @bena,

...The 'where' is outside the US. So does Yahoo want to expand here? I think they just want a social network like everyone else.
  • Pete Cashmore · 2 years ago
Yeah, UK (Ireland and Scotland), New Zealand etc.
  • Yakov · 2 years ago
It may sound odd but they would buy bc they could not build a great social networking brand themselves.
  • Pete Cashmore · 2 years ago
    What about Yahoo360??? ;)
  • Ben · 2 years ago
I'm British and all my friends are on Bebo...it's really huge here!
  • Ali · 2 years ago
    There goes the neighborhood.

Interesting deal if it goes through.
  • Pete Cashmore · 2 years ago
Heh. How long till they merge to Yahoo IDs?
  • Mike · 2 years ago
I don't like Bebo, it feels "cramped" (I am from the UK). I don't think this is a good idea for Yahoo in the long run, unless they make some major changes and draw the US market (as people have said, it is quite big here).
  • thomas55 · 2 years ago
It's probably going to happen, maybe not a billion, maybe less maybe more, but obvisouly bebo is getting bought.
  • deusdiabolus · 2 years ago
I wonder if this means I could reclaim my username, without the 23?
  • Jas · 2 years ago

Hasn't this rumour been around for a while?
I've used Bebo (it's big here in the UK) but I prefer Facebook.
Virb is good but it's too hard for normal users to figure out.
