I like the new dashboard, but the ability to close comments on old posts will be very nice... just hope it works well with Disqus.

Sweet mercy, Dec 10 will not come fast enough.
  • CraigAllanTeich · 1 year ago
Comment upgrades, Sticky Posts and Batch editing for posts: these make a blogger's life easier. Most of the other stuff are designer/programmer improvements -- one-time help. Wordpress should keep focusing attention on improving daily usability.

Any word on Intense Debate integration? Plug-in?

For anyone who wants to try a release candidate before the actual release, here's a link for you http://wordpress.org/development/2008/12/wordpr...

Hopefully, they will fix the preview function. It used to be that you could preview your post before posting it. With WP 2.6, you have to publish it publicly (and not privately) to see if it matches what you desire it to be ... which defeats the purpose of "preview". WP 2.6 also broke comments and the line up in 2 column themes. If WP team can get back to the basics, this would be very helpful!

Super super excited for Dec. 10. I can not wait to unleash some of these great features on my blog. The one click plug in install is worth the price of admission alone. Can't wait!

December 10th might be right around the corner which will be great for my clients using Wordpress but I will have to wait until Wordpress MU comes out with these new updates. I'm tempted to start a stand alone test blog just so I can give it a spin!

Thanks for announcing a future headache but I am looking forward to the new changes; especially disabling comments on older posts! Oh boy I cannot wait for that! A little too late for one of my blogs; I killed it last week because nothing I did stopped the spammers from hitting old posts. Oh well that is life and I was going to re-design that blogs entire concept anyways.

Excellent update on the changes, thanks. Will give us some good guidelines on where to best tweak our blogs.

That's cool but I wish that there were an easier way for upgrading the site - instead of uploading files, etc.

Maybe I'm a bit lazy (ok, alot lazy which is why I no longer use WP), but it seemed to me that every month they were creating "critical updates", and I'd have to FTP, etc...

Maybe I'll wait for Wordpress 3.0, instead! ;)
  • Luke Gedeon · 1 year ago
WordPress 2.7 enables one-click upgrading without FTP. Go ahead and upgrade to the Release Candidate, and the update on the 10th and any following updates will be easy.

I wish they would allow me to put all of my pics on the page at one time and then sort between them, instead of having to go through and insert one by one (and I don't mean gallery). My blog is about interior design and it very visual - but I could do a post in 1/2 the time if I didn't have to do 2 million click and waits to insert every picture.

I have been playing with the new dashboard for a bit today and like it very much.

Good features, but still not enough.

As much as I love WP, even with these features, it still lacks a lot of features, which should be 'out-of-the-box'!

And IntensDebate still does not work properly with WP!

I'm currently using one of the 2.7 Betas or RCs (I forget which one), and the changes really are useful. The biggest benefit I've found so far is the ease with which I navigate around the admin pages; and the built-in automatic upgrade feature means that once you take the leap and upload this one, you shouldn't ever need to again. If you're on the fence about trying it, my advice would be... give it a shot.

Is it still not possible to tag a page without a plugin?

Is it still not possible to have dynamic sidebars for subpages without plugin?

I cant why such important improvements arent made

I'm using the Wordpress 2.7 beta on my testing server and I loves it. Can't wait for the release client!

http://mashable.com/2008/12/04/wordpress-27-fea... Looks like significant progress. As an old Wordpress user, I like it very much.

This looks like wish come true. I am loving the new icons from wordpress. hope all love them

Looks good - can't wait to have the updater built in... having been on WP since 1.x, the "security updates" have been a major pain in the ass.

The new left menu is great. Reminds me of movable type 2.x-3.x. I actually wish movable type would go back to that.

Excelent review. I needed a mashup to get updated with 2.7. Nothing out of the ordinary if you knew which plugins to use.
  • ajay pathak · 1 year ago
these features looks really good for wordpress bloggers
  • Luke Gedeon · 1 year ago
    You don't have to wait!

Upgrade to 2.7 RC1 now. One of the coolest features of 2.7 is that it enables one-click upgrade.

One upgrade today and you are done.
  • Cody · 1 year ago
Hopefully, I'll be able to upgrade to 2.7 without breaking my blog. I fouled up the last major upgrade and it made life miserable for a couple days. Remember folks: backup your files.
  • Luke Gedeon · 1 year ago
Oh I forgot to mention.... Install this plugin first to make your upgrade easier.

How did you make this login function on this commenting tool, where you can login by fb connect or twitter or disqus? Is it a plugin I can widgetize on WP? Would like it integrated on my blog.
