What if you want your social networks aggregated and mobile?
  • Ravenii · 2 years ago
Now I am lost again, in 21 ways!
Thanks Stan for the great collection!
  • Pete · 2 years ago
Don't worry....our next article is "60 Ways to Aggregate the Social Networking Aggregators".
  • aidanhenry · 2 years ago
The big question is... which one of these is going to stick and actually attract users? i.e. Which one will lead the pack? What will be the killer feature that puts it over the edge? I don't think we will see a clear winner emerge for quite some time, as the social networks themselves are still figuring out their stories.

    Cheers,
    Aidan

  • Infomaniac · 2 years ago
I to use prefer Wink to aggregate all my profiles.
  • smorty71 · 2 years ago
Thanks for mentioning Profilactic again on Mashable. We really appreciate it.

We know we have some work to do; hoewver, we are willing to take the Pepsi Challenge against any other site in this page. So give us a try and let us know what you think.

And, MrJones, Read/WriteWeb just named us the #2 worst-named web app of all-time. We wear that badge proudly :)

    Thanks again, Mashable!

http://claimid.com should get a place in this list.
  • tomaswk · 2 years ago
I use Dandelife.com as my aggregater. I pull in my Facebook, Flickr, Personal Blog, Company Blog, Youtube, Twitter, Delicious, and Amazon into it. You can add more, that is all I have for now.

Check out my profile at tomaswk

What I like about Dandelife is the timeline. It becomes this visual map of everything I am doing on the web. And with each feed that comes in, I can choose if I want to add it to my timeline or not.
  • Adam Skinner · 2 years ago
http://ziki.com should be here as well
  • Nasty · 2 years ago
sorry to be off topic but can someone send me an pownce invite to bandidu@gmail.com ?

    thanks in advance :)
  • Zia · 2 years ago
    Many thanks for this.
  • Narendra · 2 years ago
Ahem, for the sake of history, at least give 30 Boxes credit as being the FIRST!

Simply aggregating is really only a feature, so I wouldn't count on any of these pure aggregation sites getting particularly big.
  • JF Ruiz · 2 years ago
I'm suprised to not see Ziki.com in this list.
  • Michael C. Habib · 2 years ago
I second that ClaimID should get a mention. Maybe another post on top identity and reputation managers is in order. It really is different.
  • Casey Atherton · 2 years ago
Too many choices. We needed an aggregator for these aggregators.
  • lawton chiles · 2 years ago
It seems that the more social networks I joined, the more confused I get about how to use it for my copy writing business.

Your thoughts would be priceless…or at least I am hoping.

Thanks for all your hard work,

    Lawton Chiles

Which of these outputs FOAF information in RDF?

Let's face it, the reason these apps are sprouting up is because networking portals are not really sustainable.

The WWW IS A SOCIAL NETWORK ALREADY. It just hasn't been used as such without the aid of these walled-garden type of prosthetics like MySpace, FaceBook Etc.

Distributed Social Netrworking is on the way!
  • Urbanist · 2 years ago
Romlet is a simple way to aggregate social network information right on your blog or website. It shows real-time stats and links to sites of origin with a favicon that shows you and visitors where people are coming from - kind of like a MyBlogLog Recent Visitors widget, but for whatever social sites you use.
  • theNthDoctor · 2 years ago
    www.mugshot.org is super-awesome.

Spokeo is not abandoned; rather, we've just released a new version. Instead of simply aggregating profiles, we concentrate on tracking your friends' updates across different social networks. This is why you find our profile-aggregation features lacking.

This is also why you'll like Spokeo the most if you are looking to track your friends. Spokeo is a fully-functional reader. In this release, we actually took out extraneous sharing and social functionalities in favor of a cleaner interface for reading. We've learned that we can't please everyone, since adding features for the sake of adding will actually dilute our focus.

I hope for those who want to track their social network friends in a reader-like interface, you will find Spokeo a very useful tool.
  • Pete · 2 years ago
Indeed. I don't think Stan saw the new launch. Have made some changes to post, with link to our review.
  • Lars Teigen · 2 years ago
Second Brain is going to do a major release in September. The current version is the preview release which shows the direction we're heading. A few of the features you can expect for the public release are: widgetization of collections, dynamic collections of feeds from services as well as a richer social layer and more...

If you're curious, pls apply for access to the preview release - we activate more users everyday. Our beta users will be the first to access the public release.

    Best,
    Lars

i agree with Narendra - and love the 30Boxes aggregator (although there could be a lot of improvements)... it's still super and syncs great with Facebook

I am using Ziki.com to make myself visible on the web.

Ziki offers to all its users a free registration within the main search engines (Google, Yahoo!, MSN) and their content networks.

Whenever anyone searches for your name on one of these pages, your name and a link to your Ziki profile will appear within the commercial ads on the top of the search results.
Try it out and let me know what you think about Ziki.

    Hi Stan and Fellow mashables,
This is Gideon Marken, developer/owner of SocialNetwork.in - you are not 'unlucky,' but it looks as though I am in this situation.

I was just rolling out some new features for SocialNetwork.in last weekend, and thought I should do a Web/Blog search before I posted an announcement, and fortunately found this posting.

When I launched the site, it definitely worked in both Firefox and IE, but it seems somewhere down the road, there was an issue with the Javascript on the site, causing it to not work for IE 6/7 users.

So - I stopped everything, sat down and hammered out the bugs in a few hours, and now she's back and functioning well. Thank you for pointing this out :)

    Now onto the new features!

    * RSS based API rolled out - allowing developers to use the service to extract a member's usernames to their sites, the site's URL, and a 16x16 icon of the site in JPG format. With this, developers can create 'profile widgets' or use the data as a foundation for connecting to other sites and APIs.

    * We now provide traffic charts from Compete.com on the category and site profile pages. We already provide charts by Alexa, but as you know, Alexa's data is not reality. Compete has very clean data which is more trustworthy. Thanks Compete.com!

I just made a post to my blog yesterday discussing the above in more detail: http://www.gideonmarken.com/index.cfm/blog/1657

I know your evaluation of these sites is already complete and published, but I hope you'll find the time to reconsider SocialNetwork.in. I'm always open for feedback. If anyone experiences any problems on the site - please use the contact form and send me a message.

    Have a Good One,

    Gideon Marken

The stuff needs to have a markup language and browsers should be able to represent it natively - then your browser can become what flock was taking the first baby steps towards. A way to traverse your social networks. Google needs a "social" tab on the search results page.
  • Göran Askeljung · 2 years ago
My accolades to Stan for great research on the subject.

However, it is my firm belief that the approaches taken by the above projects are not going to be successfull.
eBlizz is a new startup on the block, aiming to solve the problem with a user-centric approach, based on a smart client application.

    Check in out on www.eblizz.com

You'll be able to build ScrapBook pages (somewhat close to 2nd Brain's approach on Collections) and share these with your friends, whom you've aggreagated from Outlook, Facebook and later on many other SN's.
We are looking for beta testers, so please sign up on the page if you're interested.

    See you on eBlizz,

    Cheers/Göran

We need one profile manager to rule them all.

We need something like OpenID, but with more features and more support, or we're all gonna get Social Network Fatigue.

    ... And it's catchin', too...

Some social networking aggregators are missing the point. Being on these networks shouldnt be about looking at your own profile. It should be about using them to interact with other people on the same network.

There should be a clearer distinction between content and communication.

Is there a way to aggregate similar social networking websites? For example, what if i would like to keep one identity for all the faith based, spiritual or religion social networking websites that i am a member of, like for e.g. Godkut.com

What's the most interactive one (i.e. not just an aggregation of all your feeds)? And does data actually go back into the given networks, or is it just interactive for other members of the given Social Aggregation site to see, but nobody on the networks and services fed to it? I.e. does any of these have the "Write Once, Read Everywhere" feature, kind of like the way Tube Mogul lets you post a video to multiple video sites by posting once to their site???

I love what happens when everyone comes out with multiple formats for something. Then plugins and modifications are developed to allow synchronization between them all. If they would only collaborate at the beginning, we could avoid this all. Either way, great article!

Retaggr wasn't around when this list was compiled, but should definitely be on it! Not only is it the ultimate profile aggregation tool, you get a portable business card that can be embeded anywhere, totally customizable widgets with your content, email forwarding, email signatures, etc. etc. Really good for social stuff, but also business. I love it...seriously the king in this department.

A lot of offerings to solve a problem we have because it is still not clear which of the social networks will survive the next years. All this social networking becomes more and more strange from month to month.

Does it really make sense to use such a tool instead of selecting those networks that are really relevant? Where's the business case in it?
  • Playster.org · 4 months ago
If you're looking to promote events (like you would inside Facebook or via Twitter), you should check out http://www.playster.org. You can add events directly into the search index and traffic gets sent to your site or blog.

    Enjoy!
