"Can YouTube Make Money?"
http://www.justinlee.name/2006/05/22/can-you-tu...
I think the online Video market will follow the same trend as p2p downloading of music in that now that YouTube has established credibility as a destination of choice it will evolve into a distribution mechanism for proprietary video content.
I can envisage YouTube going head to head with iTunes as video content matures. In addition user generated content and enhanced social features will pull in the crowds. Now YouTube has the brand loyalty, such a change of strategy will be necassary to no just be a 2 year flash in the pan.
If they do go under, i can envisage, like napster that someone will buy the brand.
Also, they need to really start working on monetizing their product and get some kind of advertising campaign going on their site to make money.
Plus, I dont get the NBC deal. What can't NBC just upload stuff onto youtube, revver and waits for the magic to happen ? Unless Youtube promotes NBC videos among its network I dont see why NBC would have to pay a cent to Youtube. Isn't it free to add new videos to youtube ? Are they only buying banners to be on the homepage ? I guess they don't even need it and they should have done that as a second move.
Can someone explain it to me ?

Also, as soon as we see some higher budget super popular 10 minute shorts on YouTube, their market share will explode even further. I'd also like to believe that YouTube is working with advertisers and networks to place more of their defunct pilots on YouTube and eventually turn some of these dead-ducks into money makers.
The potential for making money with YouTube is astounding. And, for the record, if they're forced to shut down because of copyright fights, that will only usher in the era of live-streaming torrents downloaded from places like ThePirateBay. Such a thing will NOT be monetized by the networks. It's certainly not in their best interests to see YouTube die.
Oh, and Justin, I wanted to read your blog entry, but there was a horrible stuttering-about banner ad up at the top and a red flashing ad on the right column that made it so I just couldn't look at it. Any chance you could re-post it someplace more friendly on the eyes?
Where did I first see YouTube? Blogs... and then an internet forum... And lastly, a MySpace page or two.
(PPGZ) and it has been a HUGE hit on youtube..one episode received 80,000 views the day the first episode came out...also, many people who make their own episodes have series on youtube, and that helps boost views a lot more..
Ha! Look at youtube now! There's a new anime show in Japan
