Something about having a CLI makes technology seem more real and hands on. Any sufficiently proficient designer can click a mouse and adhere to style guidelines when creating a gui interface.
Making a CLI that's widely popular and useful at the same time is an arcane art form.

which has a (real) command line interface and python bindings to a lot of web services.
Goosh.org hosts an unofficial Google interface which “behaves similar to a unix-shell,†as the author Stefan Grothkopp explains. Type help to see some of the other available commands, like lucky (an “I’m feeling lucky†search), wiki (a Wikipedia search), blogs, or video. Note this project is not the first try at a Google command line utility, though one previous such site I know of seems to be down now. [Thanks Stefan!]
