Two sites, http://dealplumber.com/ and http://dealspl.us/ , launched a month ago with a theme, a digg style bargain site. I don't know differences between Crowdstorm and these two sites, but we will see when Crowdstorm launches.

    lbbs,

    Please refer to this post:

I'm well aware of dealspl.us, but it received such a bad reception on Digg that I decided to skip it.

Like most applications these days, what's needed is to see which one garners the most amount of users. It's only when the there is a significant amount of users that it really becomes useful, gains momentum and takes off. This goes with any "social" type of site though, and who knows what the number of users is to reach critical mass anyway?
  • Pete Cashmore · 3 years ago
    erik,

Exactly. Whichever service hits critical mass first will be the most useful, but the factors leading up to that can be very unpredictable.

    erik and Pete,

I absolutely agree with you. We will see how these sites are going.

Maybe, Pete, you can write a review about these sites months later :)

I've been hearing some interesting things about http://www.thisnext.com but to be honest a lot of these seem like they have little chance of succeeding. Time is limited, do people really want to spend it recommending products?

    d4rr3ll,

Yep, saw your email. No plans to write about it right now. I usually make a point of responding to every email, but now I'm way beyond 300 emails/day, it's getting tricky.

It depends how you all class "Social Shopping". A lot of the sites mentioned are more about visual bookmarking (kaboodle, stylehive) than creating a real wisdom-of-crowds based shopping experience.

I really believe that our "buzz" element combined with social networking will play a key role, although I do appreciate that there is a big battle ahead of us but we say "bring it on" :-)

I feel that Crowdstorm will garner significant amount of visitors because it's a nice blend of Social Networking and Dig-like voting system. The interface is neat and user friendly.
Crowdstorm will be immensely helpful for people who are looking for reviews and recommendations for a specific product. They can also get to interact with each other and exchange product infos and related news.
Now it's only a matter of time before we could find out how Social Shopping Sites perform in this era of WEB 2.0

I also have to go with Dealpl.us! This site makes it easy to find what you are looking for and be a part of an amazing community-talk about User Empowerment!
Giveaways for iPods, Zune, Xbox 360s anyone?

I have made a large amount of money posting my affiliate links to sales and deals on saleshout.com.
It is pretty cool that anyone can go to amazon.com and sign uip for an affiliate account and post links on saleshout.com and evrytime someone buys a product I posted I get paid NOT saleshout but me!
Anyone can do this too to make some extra money for themselves in a tough economy.
Hope this helps someone out there......An added bonus we can all help eachother get the best price on products online too :)
