Apple has a market cap of over 105 Billion. Google is only at 118 Billion. Typically you dont see acquisitions like this..and remember...they would need to offer a significant premium over the current market cap. This would equate to more than Google's market cap. Google can't afford to buy Apple and why would Apple sell..with the pace of its stock price increasing...it may have a higher market cap than Google next year is the Iphone is a huge success.

Good point - I was going to mention this in the post but the current rumors say "acquire" so we just ran with what's out there. Indeed, at the current valuations it would most likely be a merger, not an acquisition.

There is no way Google is buying Apple. Exclusive partnerships? Sure. But no one is buying a $100 billion dollar company. (unless M&A becomes NBA trade-like and multiple teams get involved to deal for one superstar.)

That doesn't mean I won't write about it of course :)

And fact is that Google is rather vividly starting to get in the face of Microsoft, if Google can find a way to make money off of having their own OS chances are they'd do it.. That also means that if they can purchase Apple, they will..

I've been saying it for a while and you can quote me on it - this will happen one day. They will merge. People are saying it doesn't make any sense, etc, but to me it's all about corporate culture and producing the best products imaginable. Does anyone seriously believe that Gapple(tm) would not be the hands-down best technology company in the world? Really, think about it all of the products that you love from these two companies - odds are most of you are reading this on your Macbooks, having just come from GMail or Youtube or found this in a Google search. And next week you'll be doing that from your iPhone. This will happen one day.

If Steve Jobs sells Apple it would bee for a gigantic amount of stock so he'll have a sit in the directors table to take actions in Google. Same thing happened when selling Pixar to Disney. He keept his CEO tittle in Pixar and he takes decisions for Disney, Co. So obviously Steve keeps his CEO tittle in Apple, Inc.

Aquire apple and take Microsoft head-on. Not only does this make strategic sense on a number of levels it seems to me to be Google's best long term shot at Microsoft.

These guys have spooning in the sack for awhile. It's gonna happen someday. But it won't be an aquisition and it won't be next week.

I wouldn't think it is a good match as there would be few synergies. One is a hardware vendor and the other a advertising platform.

If Apple was to sell, Sony would be a good match in my mind

Why, Sony:
- missed out on MP3
- likes stylish products
- could link up home entertainment with apple's networked world

Think about Sony being the networked home entertainment company... sounds catchy.....

(a bit like Cisco are looking to do.... but I don't think they have the brand to carry it off... imagine programming your VCR using command line Cisco OS...
