I think this is gonna spell the end for FB, they're trying to be like Twitter! Wrong move!

Fearless prediction: FB traffic, new sign ups, and time spent will be going down in the next few months because of the new homepage.

Well, I have the new homepage now, but… it’s NOT being updated in real time… I am a bit disappointed because I liked so much the Live Feed of the previous homepage… I hope they’ll set an opinion for this later…

I work at a University as a Web Admin and recieved the message below when coming into work this morning and updating our University Facebook Fan Page.Now, instead of having a nice "one-pager" of info about our University, visitors will have to "click-around" for info. If fan pages are just going to be profiles, then why would you provide fan pages in the first place?

The least Facebook could do is provide an option for how organizations want their fan pages to render. Heck, at least sync the content between pages and profiles if you are going to make them look and act exactly alike. I still think this a bad, redundant idea, which will just negate the uniqueness of Fan Pages and turn off visitors. We only have a small window of opportunity to connect with prospective students, alumni, etc. And now you've made that window into a bunch of even smaller, separate windows (tabs). It really seems like Facebook is contiuously having trouble "leaving well-enough alone."

Careful, or else a Myspace demise awaits thee.

I am very disappointed with the new Page format. I cannot display all of the information that I would like to. I have spent hours upon hours designing my company's facebook page to come off as clean and professional, and now it is just a mess. If I had wanted my company's page to look like a profile I would have created as such in the first place. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to make it work, since we're stuck with it. At least they gave us a little time to work on the layout before they forceably republish.

Facebook has basically just invalidated weeks of my valuable time. Thanks a bunch!

I'm actually surprised at all the comments comparing this new set up to Twitter and Friendfeed. I thought it was blatantly obvious since the major redesign (that so completely loathed) a few months back that they were trying to move in that direction. I think there'll be lots of fuss when this comes around, but I'm kind of excited to see how it'll be. I actually like the changes Facebook makes and have been on it and interacting with others more with every one.

I do hope it'll be more Opera-friendly, though.

If you are not connected at all with the development side of Twitter, as a developer who has developed several applications on Twitter, I must say that Facebook has blown open a whole new world here with this layout. All it takes is for a switch to be turned on, and BAM, Facebook just built a Twitter, which gains millions of users a day. Institute search technology and place relevant ads based on conversation and you have a billion dollar business. Well done, Facebook. Twitter now is the time to stepup and use that VC $, and if its for instituting search/showing relavent ads...Facebook will get the advertisers first b/f Twitter does..based on the volume and worldwide reach of Facebook.

The problem with twitter though is the inability to easily track a discussion due to the lack of threading. I've used twitter to update my fb status for some time, and find the conversation is much easier to interact with and follow on fb because of the comment structure.

Lately, I'm finding that twitter is less about the conversation and more about tracking news and staying tuned in. Facebook on the other hand is all about the conversation.

This is definitely a big swipe at both Twitter and FriendFeed.

If nothing else, I'm at least excited about real time updating. I always feel like my home page is the last to update.
