Nice list, but unfortunately you're using a wrong link for Invitr. It's _not_ invitr.com, but http://invitr.swal.org/.
  • Pete Cashmore · 2 years ago
    Fixed, thanks.
  • syahid · 2 years ago
this list kicks ass. glad you put dps on your resource section. that site rocks. and i don't know others besides photobucket and imageshack. thanks!
  • Jamie Stephens · 2 years ago
This is a terrific list. Thanks!

One site you might add for "Photo Printing/Book Creation" is Mpix. The quality and selection of the prints and products you get from Mpix far surpass any of the other consumer oriented sites out there (this is not surprising since they are a branch of Miller's Professional Imaging, the leading lab in the country for professional photographers).

The Mpix interface is not always as friendly as some other sites, but the result is worth it. However, stay tuned for some excellent interface and community changes from Mpix in the near future. They are doing some great things. Just thought I'd let you know.

(Disclaimer: I do some consulting for Mpix and their parent company, Miller's, inc.)

    Great List. Thank you!

May I add two of my favorites?

    John Nack on Adobe: http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/
John works for Adobe and has some great insights on a lot of things include Adobe products.

    Imaging Insider: http://imaginginsider.com
A rocking news site for photographers.
  • Andrew Ferguson · 2 years ago
I'm not a fan of Imaging Insider. They don't provide any original content, they just swipe other people's and slap Google Ads on it.

Their terms of service also claim ownership to everything they publish. Meaning the content they're taking?

I'm sorry, meaning *my* content they're taking?

    I'm not impressed.
  • Image Squad · 2 years ago
    Very complete list. Thanks.

    Excellent grouping as well.
  • 399Retouch · 2 years ago
I would like to suggest another entire category, "Post Processing Services." This would include links to some of the many online companies that employ experienced persons to do photo retouching...hiding wrinkles and scars, fixing color casts and shadows, eliminating unwanted background objects and persons, slimming, etc.

These are techniques that, in theory, anyone can learn. However, that takes time so it is often more sensible to hire a company to do it for you.

My company has retouchers who do very high-quality work, and we acknowledge that some of our competitors are as good as or even better than we are (if you can afford them).

I appreciate the list of resources and plan to check out some of them.

Another one you could add to the list..

Not a bad list of resources, but the photography blog list is a bit skimpy... plus I'm a little hurt that you left me and my blogging buddies out of the list.

You should add Cellblock to the list of mobile apps. It's not exclusively mobile -- you can upload from the web or by email -- but its real utility I think comes from the ability to create custom email addresses to aggregate photos. Say you're at a wedding reception and everyone can send pics from their phones to bobandmary07 at cellblock.com, the pics (and videos) automatically show up in an online slideshow player. Pretty handy.
  • maddog21 · 2 years ago
    Great list really useful thanks!

Also can i recommend http://www.onlinephotographers.net for the photo sharing section, its just been launched but has already got some really good photographers and photos on there, definately worth a look.
  • Krys · 2 years ago
  • Andrew Ferguson · 2 years ago
I'm with Brian here, the photography blogs section is pretty skimpy. I can think of at least a half-dozen well written photography blogs that you haven't included there.

I'm a little hurt my photography blog got left out too :P

    Also:

"Stuck In Customs - blog by one of the greatest DRM photographers on the net"

I think you mean HDR, not DRM.
  • Pete Cashmore · 2 years ago
    Fixed it, thanks.
  • gwen · 2 years ago
For photoblogs, there is a better way to find great photoblogs (and while Chromasia and Stuck in Customs are good, they are by no means the definitive photoblogs): http://photoblogs.org or http://photos.vfxy.com/. They both list photoblogs and have created communities around those blogs.

    Excellent listing of photo tools.

I found an off-line tool that you might be interested in. This freeware adds description, title and tags (including geotagging) before you upload to the online sites like Flickr or Zooomr and the tags are IPTC so their compatible with almost all photo applications.

For a how-to check out this link: http://brentevans.blogspot.com/2007/06/tag-and-...

Check out Blurb.com for creating picture books. Really nice free editing package to create the book and large format (13 x 11 inches) hardback book starts at $54.95.

Wow, this is a very comprehensive list. As a PR rep for Lexar, I think it might be worth adding another category - Informational Resources. I think there are a lot of sites with information about digital photography including tips, tutorials and lessons.

One site to add to the new category would be http:www.lexar.com/dp. It has a lot of great information about digital photography from some great names in the industry.

    Once again, great list.

Great list of resources, thank you. If any commercial organisations based in and around London are in need of a professional photorapher they should consider using Jeff Russell Photography. Based in Kent they cover the whole of the South East making them an ideal choice for London Photographers.
  • DW Stock Picture Library · 1 year ago
    Firstly, fantastic resource.

While Royalty Free photography has its advantages (east to come by and cheap) using RF stock comes with the risk of duplication, repetition, overexposure, and brand confusion. Rights Managed stock provides more protection for both the photographer and the buyer, as well as higher quality images, and less risk of image duplication.

Here's a new one that's simple to use. <a href="http://pictureful.com" rel="nofollow">pictureful.com : Free online photo editor, decorate with overlays, remove red eye, simple zoom for crop, and resize.
  • Razvan Neagu · 1 year ago
Please add Shozam (http://www.shozam.com) to the list. You should have it in your "database" (http://mashable.com/2007/04/09/shozam/).

The most appropriate category for Shozam is "Photo Sharing." The program is different from typical photo sharing sites because it generates galleries on user's computer and allows the user to upload to *any* Web host. Shozam can also be tagged as a mashup generator since it combines multimedia with Web services from Google Maps and PayPal.

    Suggested description:
Shozam - Generate galleries on your computer and upload to your Web site or any Web host. Features audio, video, slideshows, geotagging (via Google Maps) and ecommerce (via PayPal).
  • Rick Englert · 1 year ago
Also please add PicFindr.com to the photo search category. PicFindr searches several sites that offer free (as in no cost) photos that you can legally use for commercial projects. Search options let you choose those where attribution is required or not. Also, two new portals have just been released to find legal photos for educational and worship/church use at http://school.PicFindr.com and http://worship.PicFindr.com respectively.

    Thanks
  • Rick Englert · 1 year ago
Also, you can add Dreamstime.com to the Stock photo section. Dreamstime competes with the likes of iStockPhoto and offers mainly low-cost stock photography, but also has a very high quality free (as in no-cost) section. For full disclosure, PicFindr is partnered with Dreamstime.
