Well, they are Flash clocks just as Clocklink, but with very new designs, due to a new way of displaying time. The BIG difference in the business model is that Clocklink is the imitation of real clocks, on the other hand Relatime is born on Internet BUT they can make real watches from the virtual models. Other differences are about a desktop version, the possibility for users to build their own "Relatime watch", and last but not least the actual spirit of research and discovery they want to share with people.

Re: ClockLink – MySpace Clocks

This clock site was made by a company in Seattle for about 19 years. The clock is not their business, but it stared as a fun project for the company. With almost 9 miilion views every day, company is forced to do something with it.

Why do I know this?
Because I own the comany. Thank you for your good comment and not so good comment. Enjoy the clocks. I am not here to take over your blog or web site ... well, at least not yet.

Re: ClockLink – MySpace Clocks

While doing some product design work for a corporation, the CEO (the son of the founder) said matter-of-factly, "We don't know who buys this shit."

But people *do* buy it, which is why that company sold their product.

I'm reminded of that comment every time I decide to visit Big Box Retailer to see what crap people are buying now. I don't have to like it, but I can't help but acknowledge it.

Re: ClockLink – MySpace Clocks

I really don't see any value to these things.

Re: ClockLink – MySpace Clocks

Guys,

I wasn't saying that Clocklink is actually going to make any money - I was just using it to illustrate some related points. Sensible business plans are always wise (think: 37Signals).

Increasingly, there's the situation where a company with no business model achieves enormous scale (YouTube, MySpace etc) and can then be sold or funded by ads. I used to think those were anomalies, but I now realize that you can predict this kind of growth in advance, provided the right factors are in place.

Re: ClockLink – MySpace Clocks

Pete: This is a cool thing to use (especially since we have a distributed team it can really help us) but monetization might be tricky.

Re: ClockLink – MySpace Clocks

Pete,
I forgot, business models and business plans are old school and as such no longer in vogue.
i personally would be pissed if i put some dumb clock on my page only to have it later hijacked and used to deliver popup ads, or something.

Re: ClockLink – MySpace Clocks

Brian,

Hehe. Well, there is *some* monetization there, but "business model" is maybe overstating it.

TAD,

Yes, they're already selling the adspace - you can also make the clock link to your own site for a fee.

Re: ClockLink – MySpace Clocks

Mouse over the clock for an ad - which I'm guessing can eventually be sold to company x or even rotate amongst tons of companies. I guess also since it's flash app that they can do a lot more than that if they want to.

Re: ClockLink – MySpace Clocks

wait, so where is the business model here? is it just the logos in the background of the clock?

Re: ClockLink – MySpace Clocks

My first question was, "Why?????"

but then I thought of Flava Flav.
