Unfortunately providing illicit material is not the way to make profits, they should have known better. If I were YouTVPC and Peekvid I would get ready to place a motion for leave to file cross-complaint. This trial won't be easy...

Re: YouTVPC and Peekvid Being Sued for Providing Access to Illicit Video Content

I use http://www.femalebymale.net is better

Re: YouTVPC and Peekvid Being Sued for Providing Access to Illicit Video Content

“Peekvid is committed to an industry solution that will provide a mechanism to compensate artists that create the work you enjoy watching. Peekvid would like to be part of the long term solution.”

Is it nice to see they are taking all the cash from their intrusive advertising and not sharing it with the content producers:

This linking issue has been going on for a while and there is a BIG difference in what Peekvid do compared to Google which makes one legal and the other illegal. Its explained here:
http://www.webtvwire.com/pe...

Re: YouTVPC and Peekvid Being Sued for Providing Access to Illicit Video Content

Wow, how can that be enforced if companies are held liable by simply linking to copyrighted content?

If so, then there are hundreds of other sites that can also held liable for direct linking/embedding to 'illegal content'

Very interested to see how this plays out because it definitely impacts everyone. I don't understand how the MPAA can expect this to be successful when the companies they are going after don't even host the content in question.

Re: YouTVPC and Peekvid Being Sued for Providing Access to Illicit Video Content

It's an interesting case, and the question "where does the liability stop" is very important. If I have a meta-index linking to sites like PeekVid and YouTVPC and the 100s of others, am I also viewed to be "prospering from illicit material"? Does Mashable's recent page of links do so too? It's pretty hard to draw the line - but I think consensus is, the line should be where the content is hosted.

Be interesting to see how it pans out...

Re: YouTVPC and Peekvid Being Sued for Providing Access to Illicit Video Content

If such was the case, a LOT of sites can be sued. The movie group just wants to make $ in any way possible.

Re: YouTVPC and Peekvid Being Sued for Providing Access to Illicit Video Content

I kinda wondered when PeekVid would go down (or get sued at least). They really do have a nice assortment of copyrighted works available. Though I still say this whole "copyright" issue isn't the real issue: it's all about controlling distribution in my mind.

Distribution is worth more than some dumb copyright. A hamster tastes like chicken in case your desperate for food.
