@Jessie - I believe Google use the OpenAIM api's to connect, which is why it's only showing up on the Gmail page at the moment. They have to write it into the other pages and GoogleTalk.

I just hope this leads them into supporting MSN/Live and Yahoo messengers too. Googletalk would be brilliant if it had multi-protocol connectivity a-la Pidgin.

Hmmm. The picture is not of the version of Gmail that I have. The blue is lighter, and there is only one shade, whereas in mine, there are two shades of blue. This reminds me of the leaked screenshot that GOS posted of the Gmail version that supports AIM, with the new colour-scheme. Looks like they are using it in-house!
  • Ioannus de Verani · 2 years ago
OK, here is the URL for the screenshot at Google System. The colour scheme is a little different, but still not the same as what regular users get:

Is this using Open AIM or the fact that XMPP, the protocol underlying Google Talk, supports the idea of an "AIM transport?"
  • searayman · 2 years ago
ok someone who has this feature has to check, if you logg into gmail chat and sign in with aim then logg out and logg in via this web version here:

    http://www.google.com/talk/#

(click the small launch link at the bottom, not the download)

i want to see if you aim contacts will show in this version too?
