add-ons are great in principle, but finding something unique that YouTube wonâ€™t copy in a few months is a real challenge. One idea that could work is cloning applications like Zingfu, RockYou or Slide.com, but for video. So instead of importing photos from Imageshack and Photobucket, users could grab clips from YouTube or MySpace Video, add some bling and export the finished clip.

Thatâ€™s exactly what Vidavee Grafitti aims to do. Launched today by the video sharing platform Vidavee, Grafitti lets you grab any YouTube video (we didnâ€™t get MySpace Video to work, but it should in theory), and add speech bubbles, effects, animations, emoticons and other bling. A timeline dictates when these add-ons will appear, and editing is super-easy. Itâ€™s an excellent implementation of the idea. Naturally, you can post your finished clip to hi5, Facebook and the rest. Vidavee says that Graffiti is a bit of a buzz-generator at the moment, but it will soon become part of the core offering.

But what might be nice here is the ability to download a clip and re-upload it to a video sharing site. Better still: allow users to re-upload clips direct. I donâ€™t think YouTube has made this possible for developers yet, but I seem to remember that YouTube does allow mobile uploading via an email address, so perhaps a workaround could be devised. Either way, Iâ€™d love to see a YouTube Ecosystem evolve, in the same way that the MySpace layouts sites have created a MySpace Economy.

We picked up on Feeding the MySpace Beast about 6 months before it became the dominant trend for Silicon Valley startups, so I give it about 3 months before YouTube embraces a similar developer ecosystem.

The girl in the intro video is really annoying, and her "jokes" at the end aren't funny or 'cute'. It's a good idea, but the videos are still being hosted on youtube/host so if they are removed, you would end up with nothing.

Similar to Mojiti (http://mojiti.com), another video annotation site that supports more video sharing sites (MySpace, Google Video, YouTube, Revver, etc. etc.) and more functionality. Tons of people are using it for subtitling too.

No, I accidentally used "add" instead of "ad"... When you type at 100 words-per-minute, it's an honest mistake - not an indication that I don't know the definition :)

BTW... I clicked on that add, err, ad just to see what it was about - it looked like one of those sites that build themselves around Google ads (i.e. no content, all ads).

Anyway, to stay on topic - I guess I agree with you, Pete... But there might be a problem when we start seeing these video-editing services which could potentially allow people to interfere with the ads.

No, I don't think they would kill off the ecosystem. Since Google is the king of advertising and revenue sharing, I expect they'd figure out a way to make it work for everyone.

It's ironic, actually, that sites like Flixya (which wrap Adsense around embedded YouTube clips) are making money for the parent company, Google.

PS. I see Zwinky ads, but yeah, I've seen the "Fashion" ads before - I'm working to make them more contextual.
