    It seems iStockphoto" expansion into the Music realm is one of the many examples of how traffic will drive companies into other markets. Get some traffic and expand offerings. That's just seems to be how it works.

    Right, maybe its time for royalty free sound effects and music sites like http://www.sfxsource.com to start offering stock photography in turn .. but then again, perhaps these media distributors should stick to what they know in order to maintain the quality and relevance of their offerings

    The problem with these sites from the artist's point of view is that you are one of millions of other tracks. Then if a user actually finds and likes your music then you get paid a micropayment of pennies to a few dollars at the most. This is a lot different from traditional publishing where you could get paid hundred or thousands for placement in film and tv. All the while it's akward to be charging pennies for music online and also offer it under the creative commons license like I do. Thats why I just steer clear of uploading my tracks to stock music sites and I prefer people to come to my own site and build a mailing list.
