Jon: We appreciate it if people see an extra value in iHipo but we are not specifically trying to "poach" people from other networks. LinkedIn caters to pretty much the complete demographic of professionals whereas we concentrate on our niche: the entry level segment + the international factor. It is not yet finalized if an open API for iHipo will be created or if we will go for a partnership / application integration with an established network.

And in addition to the article, we do actually offer tags in user profiles, i.e. you can indicate your haves and wants and seek for complementary profiles over the search function.

Patrick, are you hoping to pick up the people who feel alienated by LinkedIn, or are you planning on convincing people to use both? Also, do you have plans to use the LinkedIn platform when it debuts?

Peter, the site is displayed to the right, there is huge gap in the left side , I am using Firefox

Might want to take care of the front page layout quickly

And for claiming to be international, put some more Asian faces especially Indians, Japanese, Koreans and Chinese

Keep it AD FREE as like Xing, dont clutter your site with Google Adsense like LinkedIn

And also:

Xing is multilinguals, LinkedIn is American-English centric

Xing has the feeling of real comunities, LinkedIn is way too isolated for a new user lookng at his lone profile (except he sees google adsense) he doesnt know much about whats going in

Xing allows you to see pics of new members, new articles, new comments etc

Thanks for writing about us. iHipo was bootstrapped by the three founders (we're all recent uni grads), so there are quite a few functions on our list which could not be implemented at this stage. However, we are currently in initial talks with various investors, which will give us the possibility of implementing enhanced feature sets within the next 3-6 months.

We define our target market as ranging from the entry level (internships, graduate recruitment) to
young professional level segment (up to 10 years of work experience) for international assignments. Thus, we operate in a niche and do not claim to be in direct competition with general purpose sns like LinkedIn or Xing.

Two major trends are behind our initiative:
1. Gradual shift from national to international recruitment budgets in HR marketing, in search of best available global talent. (in order to ensure the aggregation of a community of High-Potentials, we are currently operating with a manual approval system which will eventually be replaced by an open peer-rating system)
2. Ongoing niching in the social network space.

But why would I bother with yet another social network when LinkedIn already has most of my contacts plus the features I want? What do these guys offer me that LinkedIn does not?
