As in, they will add just about anyone to their friends list.

Plurk is cute. I like the interface better than twitter, though granted, twitter is easier to read.. WHEN it's up. If I could cross them both with Livejournal, I'd love it forever.

Re: Plurk Set To Release API But Remains the Underdog in the Race Against Twitter

good point..about the killer app

Re: Plurk Set To Release API But Remains the Underdog in the Race Against Twitter

In a word, rooms. I agree with you that friendfeed puts out a lot of noise, and I didn't really see the point of it, other than a way to boost your ego, 'hey look at everything I have done.' Until the Apple WWDC, I happened upon the Friend Feed room and it was a different experience, how all of these far-flung articles, live-streams, and comments were converging in one place. I think Friend Feed rooms will be their 'killer app' if they ever figure out how to add search for them.

Re: Plurk Set To Release API But Remains the Underdog in the Race Against Twitter

Yup. There's no way Plurk will succeed without the API and, moreover, its adoption by the developer community. Its open API has been one of the strengths of Twitter, greatly extending its functionality.

I haven't seen any news of the release at the time of writing...

Re: Plurk Set To Release API But Remains the Underdog in the Race Against Twitter

I don't like it from what I've seen...I don't know if you can change this, but an account I saw has the latest news on the left of the screen which seems backwards to me. As far as FriendFeed goes, I've just started using it, and most of my friends aren't on it, but the UI is pretty bad in my opinion. No style, and I can't figure out how to turn off updates from friends of my friends. What about Socialthing? Haven't used it yet, but it looks like it's going to be a better-looking version of FriendFeed.

Re: Plurk Set To Release API But Remains the Underdog in the Race Against Twitter

Is "Master T" a typo? Or, is this some sort of pun I'm not aware of? Twitter is about posting a note on your wall that fans see as they walk by. Plurk is about hanging out at the wall with your friends who happen to be there at that time.

Re: Plurk Set To Release API But Remains the Underdog in the Race Against Twitter

Chant "frank the tank!"

Yeae there is always someone out there trying to build something similar, yet better.

Re: Plurk Set To Release API But Remains the Underdog in the Race Against Twitter

First, is was a beer funnel, not a whiskey shot, that lead Frank the Tank to go streaking. We assume he did not have time to make it to Bed Bath & Beyond.

I'm hedging my bets with Plurk, but it just doesn't feel right. I'm guessing a third-party developer will be able to do a better job of organizing it and making a new interface.

Re: Plurk Set To Release API But Remains the Underdog in the Race Against Twitter

Interesting. That is a first that I have heard (kerk).

Friend Feed can become a little overwhelming with all the multiple profiles that all my friends have, but I'm still getting used to it.

What do you like so much about Friend Feed?

Re: Plurk Set To Release API But Remains the Underdog in the Race Against Twitter

For whatever reason I like Plurk better than Twitter, I have no friends on either so both are useless to me, but Plurk just seems to me to be easier to follow. The big downside to Plurk is that it has smileys, God I hate smileys. Either way I don't think it matters much, Friend Feed is going to be the new internet water cooler from now on anyways.

Re: Plurk Set To Release API But Remains the Underdog in the Race Against Twitter

I find it a little overwhelming too. You can't do a quick scan of the posts.

However, I have noticed that Plurk is a little faster than pownce. However, that maybe because pownce has more users and larger interface. Meaning posting pics & videos on a larger viewing scale.

Re: Plurk Set To Release API But Remains the Underdog in the Race Against Twitter

Answer: doubt it.

Re: Plurk Set To Release API But Remains the Underdog in the Race Against Twitter

"I like to tell them to imagine AIM grabbing Twitter around the neck, taking a shot of whiskey and yelling “We’re going streaking!” It’s a whole lot of fun, but I am not sure if I can take it seriously yet."

Excellent
