If by "virtual worlds" you mean the circle jerk for geeks that is Second Life, then yes... it's going the way of the dodo.

Voted for "Widgets and Facebook Apps" but do not think the two should be lumped into the same category. Widgets - and the further development into microsites - have a bright future especially in media. Facebook apps, however, are limited by functionality, single platform exposure, and a parent operation increasingly returning to exclusivity.

Where is User Generated Content on this poll?
  • Adam Hirsch · 2 years ago
CountRob, User Generated Content will always be around. Sorry to have to be the one to tell you that...

I hope so; if not we're all out of jobs! ;-)

    I know, I know, I was joking.

Yes, people will always need a place to store their content (99% of the time it's worthless junk.)

However, these web 2.0 companies seem to have this mentality of "If I build it they will create content for it." Which is not always true, especially those who are entering an established market.

Virtual Worlds are going to rock the web..

For Example look at Second Life > they just keep growing.

Heh like there's a difference between virtual worlds (SL isn't the only one, hello) and social nets anyway. Maybe when virtual world mode is one of the options to the multi-billion dollar industry knowing as *gaming*, then we'll see.

I'll put my money on snackable software, since it's so en vogue to make itty bitty software, heh.
