Can you assign projectgroups in Yammer? - e.g. as Tabs (compareable to chatrooms)
If not this would be a nice feature.
  • Aaron Strout · 1 year ago
Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that you can assign groups in Yammer. You can however assign groups in Utterli.

ESME has all these capabilities - and more. (Disclosure: I"m part of the ESME team)

Loving the feedback. There are a number of players that we didn't include in this first pass (thanks Dennis for pointing out ESME). Keep adding them to the comments - we can do a follow up post and include all the relevant players. You can also see a great list of these folks provided by my friend, Laura Fitton - http://mashable.com/2008/09/25/enterprise-micro...

Another potential value of microblogging to the enterprise is to create new connections between employees and to grow existing bonds, makeing for tighter teams and enhanced morale. Take, for example, the culture at Zappos, where knowing about each other personally is encouraged by the way the CEO and other managers use Twitter. Humanizing the workplace through technology can be ironic, but microblogging is better suited to it than previous technologies.

Great comment Dale. Thanks for adding!

We launch Upswing 360 in November, in which microblogging and social networking are simply features to a purposeful business application for a business team: on-demand CRM. Upswing 360 aligns context, content, and community - internal business teams - for a specific use. Read more about Upswing 360 here: http://www.upswingcrm.com/blog/2008/9/9/what-ar...

Just in time for your post, Socialtext announced Signals, which makes microblogging ready for the Enterprise, and not the other way around :)

    * Disclosure: Socialtext is my client

Nice to see two of my favorite Boston people pop up in my RSS today :) Good job, Aaron and Joe - useful post about the new enterprise SoMe space.

@geechee_girl Joe and I are just trying to keep up with you. You are a blogging rock star on Mashable!

it's funny when half of the comments are about other services and they are comments from representatives of those other services. I want some real world user comments.

I just wrote about an application for the translation industry, then I ran across this article:

Judging from a sampling of Twitter users including Comcast, JetBlue, FedEx, and Dell which use the microblogging utility in some fashion, their peers are destined to join.

I enjoyed reading the piece, Aaron and Joe, but would suggest that the term, "knowledge management," be changed to reflect the buzz I am hearing to be "knowledge sharing." KM is Web 1.0, if you will; whereas KS is Web 2.0.
  • Aaron Strout · 1 year ago
Ari - great comment. And yes, I agree with your KM recommendation. It's very 1.0. We should have used a more up to date term.

    Thanks,

Excellent read. Although we're a little behind here in the public sector, many of us are pushing to at least explore if not implement the Web2.0 wave...

Please take a look at www.akibot.com.
Akibot is the first semantic actionable micro-blogging platform for the enterprise. Akibot is a tool that not only allows real-time group collaboration and awareness through short messages, but it also understands those messages and, if applicable, takes action.

Another interesting one is Snipia: http://www.snipia.com/
It's more "get it done" microblogging (ex: embedded tasks) than "communicate" oriented. They are still in alpha I believe so just as with others, time will tell.
